Which is better? M1 garand or a norinco M14?

There fixed that up for you. Wouldn't want anyone to think that you'd commit a criminal act or missuse a firearm.

Haha good one. However I think he was referring to use in battle. Not likely thought that in the heat of battle your opponents would hear the ping or know where it came from. I wonder if the yanks would use them as decoys, throwing a few empty enbloc clips around might confuse the enemy, anyone know?

I've owned 3 Garands, a TRW M14 (a real M14) and a Springfield M1A. All were excellent shooters and with practice a Garand can be shot as efficiently as an M14. Given the limitations on magazines the Garand is far, far superior for action rifle matches. This is based on my experience in dozens of competitions during the last 20 years. When is the last time you competed with yours? If you reload, it doesn't matter as both .30-06 and .308 Win use the same projectiles. The key is practice, if you don't, neither is any better than a club!

i am looking at one of two rifles ,a m1 garand or a norinco m14 .I would like to know wich would be a better rifle?i can only afford one ,right now.tell me what you guys and gals think.

If money is a factor go for the M14...

...When the funds are available get the Garand.

I have some of each and both are nice rifles.

I have a new norinco m-14 and a WWII & Korean vintage Garand. Having fired both a great deal, I'll take the Garand anytime. If I had to bet my life on a rifle, the Garand is the one. Don't get me wrong, I like my M14 just fine but I prefer the Garand

They definitely did but it only worked initially. I was reading somewhere that a yank squad would have several guys empty their clips with several "pings" but one or two would hold out to draw out the enemy. Then the soldiers with loaded Garands would blast them out. Enemy troops were not that stupid and quickly learned not to fall for that. Also a squad would not have all the troopers empty their clips at the same time. It was more on a rotating basis. There was always someone with a loaded weapon.

m1 is great, m14 is a take on the original. i have had both and now have a norinco m14. either way you win. can't go wrong. as far as every one talking about "ping" for the m1. you never fight alone. you run out there is another 2 or 3 firing. section commanders fire and control. besides, if you are on the scrimish line you would have fixed bayonets. not like the movies. you only fire when told or when a "target" (enemy) appears. enough bs buy both if possible. for me its like deciding between a inglis 9mm or a m1911a1.

I didn't read the whole thread, so I'm sorry if it has been said already:

The garand, because M-14's never shot any nazi's!

yeah, and university students...

garand is cooler, and it will appreciate in value more than any chi-com piece. That is, if you can find one in good shape!
