I am interested in thoughts/impressions/feelings/comments.

I already have an winch870 and i am fairly up to speed on the 590A1 but i may be able to grab a 590A1SPX (9shot, 20") and i wonder if anyone has one and what they think...

Thanks! :D

The SPX has a ported barrel, it has a rail mounted on the receiver but still includes the ghost ring setup with a winged fiber optic front sight. The package also includes an M-9 bayonet and sheath.

Although i typically eschew the "tacticool" setups, i might have to mount an eotech or something and i am hoping to have it co-witness with the winged front sight.

Just bought one today from P&D, I think they have a couple left. I should get it tomorrow, take it to the range on the weekend. Range report Monday-ish.

Uber.

I like the sound of a ported barrel, but i don't think i would like the chin weld resulting from the rail. I had a rail with a red dot on my 590 for about an hour but i couldn't stand how high it was and it looks like the 590spx is going to be at least as high.

last time I checked

Remington made the 870 so perhaps you need to stick with what you have before moving on

I paid $825.00 @ P&D, but the ported barrel, top knotch sights, and M9 bayonet are worth it. The trac-loc sights are worth over $100, and the bayonet is worth $200.00 easy, plus the service at P&D is A+, it took about an hour from my phone call before it was shipped.

There has never been an M9 worth $200 - trust me on this. Massive POS. The Ontario Marine Bayyonet on the other hand. I can sell you as many of those as you want for $200/ea...

I'm no expert on knives, but up in the boonies where I live everything is pricey, turns out the bayonet is made by Ontario. I took it out on Sunday and put a variety of shells through it, cheapshot, slugs, and 000 buck (ouch.)
The sights are awesome, fully adjustable, with front fibre optic red. I got some pretty good slug groups at 50 yards, between 3-4", I really need a good sandbag though, I was using my range bag. The porting cut down the recoil a little bit, but not much-especially with the 000 buck. Overall I like it, good finish, solid. In retrospect though, the price seems a little steep. But the prices on everything have gone up a fair bit lately. I could see the point that a red dot might be high, a burris fastfire might work, but you would probably have to remove the rear sight so it wouldn't interfere, it's a smallish rail. I may have jumped too soon, but I had that "gotta have it" vibe going on. So now I've got it and I'm gonna keep it and use it.

They are LPA's, heard somebody call them Trac-Loc before I got mine in the mail. My bad.

I have the identical setup on my 590 A1...

The cost of the rail, the front and rear site...and the installation (the front site had to be soldered on) was about $300.

If that shotgun didn't have barrell ports...it would be a fantastic choice for IPSC 3 gun (in the Standard Manual Division)...

Thanks for the review and info! i placed my order on Friday, definitely with that gotta-have-it mentality going on... but i am excited for my new boom stick. Nice to have a piece that will keep my other, less tacticool firearms safe!
