I like to kill things dead every time, so I don't use a BB or pellet gun to hunt. Target practice can be a lot of fun though.

Post this on the hunting forum and see what people think. Taking bad shots at game animals for no other reason then the fun of killing it is stupid and immature. It gives the rest of us a bad name and is just poor form in general. A .177 at 495 is not considered sufficient for small game at the ranges you mentioned, nor is the gun you are using sufficiently accurate. You are shooting for a 1"-1 1/2" target to drop it on the spot. Further more I believe you are likely breaking the law since rabbit closed on June 15.

Tell me that you ate your quarry though? hunting for sport isn't really hunting at all, just killing.

1st of all, rather than flaming me, understand that I have alot of acreage, all surrounded by my good friends acreage. He owns an apple orchard, and my wife and I have garden which stocks our freezer year round
Naturally, there are rabbits attracted to the area. We've learned to curse them as they eat the apple tree saplings down to nothing, and ruin a garden over-night.....LITERALLY
As for those who ASSUME we just shoot for fun.....your right, it is fun, and it is also acceptable practice in our area. This is just the FIRST time either of us tried a pellet gun, and I thought it would be an interesting thread. The immaturaty level of some of the guys on here (or their interest only in flaming) taught me other-wise.
As for eating, no. I did not eat this one. The Red-bone Hound (chevy) did. Even the bones if that matters. However, our freezer IS full of my wife and Granmothers rabbit pies. (also made with partrige).

Yes....I laughed. I was amazed it was a "bang-flop" kill. Weird?....ok, I'm weird I guess.
Did I eat my quarry. No. Do my kids eat the Rats they shoot at the dump? No. Rabbits are not viewed kindly....much like rats. However, I'll gurantee you ,our family consumes more rabbit in a year that most members on this site.

Well, it might be perfectly normal where you live and it might even be a justified form of pest control in your area (I don't judge one way or the other).....

I'm not here looking for "support". Just tried to share a first time experience with a air gun that truely amazed me. Am I nuts, or have I not been reading 100 plus threads in this forum titled "hunting with .177 495fps" etc, etc....
Telling me or my neighbour that we are "out of season" is rediculous. Only a law that a "liberal" would seek to uphold in our situation. I'm only reffering to pests (rabbits in this case). We respect all game laws. This is why I changed my OP to "forget it"......this is headed nowhere fast. I will gladly agree to disagree
For the record, read posts 11 and 12. Noone once flamed these guys for shooting CATS for god sakes. I'm a big bad man for shooting a rabbit, yet in between the guys flaming me, we have guys shooting friggn cats!!! Now, I can honestly, and proudly say, I've never done that.

If you shoot deer out of season, you are a poacher, game thief and a criminal. I'm a card carrying Conservative and I care. There's no way you can justify this blatent crime because it's a liberal law. Try telling that to the judge when you lose your hunting license,your gun and whatever else you use in you criminal pursuit. Do you register your guns? That's a Liberal law! Do you pay income tax?
Note also the Gunnutz rules about the posting of illegal activity.
