NEWS

The deadline for hunters to apply for the antlerless deer validation tag draw has been extended to Monday, July 6, from Tuesday, June 30, due to high demand.

Hunters with a valid hunting version Outdoors Card can apply to the Antlerless Deer Tag Draw by phone or in person:

* Apply using the automated phone system 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 1-800-288-1155. (A credit card is required.) The deadline for telephone applications is 11:55 p.m. (ET) on July 6.

* Apply at a ServiceOntario/Government Information Centre during regular business hours. The deadline for paper applications to be received at a ServiceOntario Centre is 5:00 p.m. (ET) on July 6.

Or another way to say it would be -> our phone system sucks and we haven't kept pace with current technologies like the internet...

Get with the times MNR...

What's wrong with the old technology?
I bought my Deer tag at Crappy Tire then sent in the card by mail.
Works for me. I did it in plenty of time. I don't see why they should extend
the limit. Ya snooze ya loose I always say. I wouldn't exactly
call it fair if I didn't get one when someone who was late did
in an area without 100% success rate.

Works for you , until Canada Post loses the card...;)

Why not have all of those choices? I started calling 2 1/2 weeks before the deadline, but the "we are having troubles now, please call back later" problem resulted in me having to call at least 100 times before it worked. I'd say that calling 2 1/2 weeks before is plenty of time. EDIT -> note this was not a busy signal, it was a problem accessing card info.

I don't have an issue with the deadline, in fact if it came to it I would have driven to the office to drop off the paperwork in person. We have had 100% tags for the past 10 years where I hunt anyways. The problem that I have is that their system just plain sucks. Given the MNR budget, I'm not really surprised. They can barely afford to drive their trucks...

They changed the fricken deadline this year!!!!! By a MONTH!!!!

Used to be July 31st - Now it's June 30th??????

They prolly had a limited response and extended it to make more money....

Huntress & I got our doe tag's submitted today, JUST under the wire!!! YAHOO!!!

Now, just waiting for the additional tags on the 20th...

Cheers
Jay

That's s**tty for anyone who isn't in a 100% draw area we have known for nearly 2yrs that the date would be changing....we scramble to get our app's in on time. Then some lazy/forgetful asses do not so they complain and now they might get a tag over me?.....complete BS! when it comes to limited draw area's the deadline should be the dead line plain and simple!.....sorry to anyone who may have forgot next time put it on the calender.

Yes, but the system started crashing 10 days before the deadline. There is nothing that says you need to have it in 2 months ahead...This is about people that didn't forget, but couldn't submit it...The MNR wants us to use the phone system, and eventually you won't have a choice to mail it in.

Sure they give us 60days to call in why not get it done the first week?.....those who leave it until the last 2wks deserve to not be entered for leaving it too long...thats my opinion......Are you given a reference number for the failed calls?....are only people who were victims of the crashes allowed to apply now or is it open to everyone?

You don't have to mail it in you can do it all at your local service Canada office like I did.....they wont be able to transfer the whole thing over to telephone only! there are people who do not have credit cards and can't apply over the phone......Now online with EMT/credit card/(FRAUD ALERT).....ect would work out ok they could put these features on the service Canada kiosks at malls as well...

If I remember correctly. Doesn't the MNR charge a little extra to use the
phone system? For your convenience
I don't think that they can drop the mail-in card.
Believe it or not, there are a lot of hunters out there who don't
have a credit card.

No, probably not. The phone system is supposed to save them a ton of work and $$, with less manual reading of cards, processing/entry of the info, and the printing of cards/paperwork. Too bad it doesn't work properly...

All they need is a different phone number for each district and better servers...
