Ok here is a ? I have. I want to take my SKS that has a fixed magazine and cut and spot weld it onto the existing exterior of my fixed magazine. This would in no way change the capacity of the existing magazine. It would kind of just be like my SKS was pretending to have a big ass banana magazine. The reason I want to do this is because I was thinking I could also modify the banana magazine to have one of the sides fold open to use as storage for extra rounds etc. Has anyone done this? Any pictures if so? what would be a good magazine to use AK maybe? Also is there any legal issue in doing this?

Just buy a tapco 20rd mag pinned to 5. Some make a 30rd mag.

Good god, man, please don't do that.

Just buy a duckbill mag. I had an SKS with duckbills way back in the day (maybe 1993?) and although the feed lips took a bit of bending, I eventually got them all to feed well.

If you do decide to weld on a mag extension, I am begging you, please change your avatar first. Don't drag the whole province down.

No lie I think I like the idea of the metal magazine extension better. Like I said it would be non functional as a magazine and used as storage for stuff like, extra rounds matches, small knife, that sort of stuff. I don't need/want it to be functional. As for changing my avitar so I don't drag the province down. How do you change it? Just joking, I can see how a question like this sounds super redneck but I do still like the idea.

I'm pretty sure this was discussed in the black & green section, someone wanted to adapt a 30rd mag to cover their LAR-10 rnd mag. From what I recall it is apparently not allowed but I can't remember the thread to double check.

Why would you modify your rifle to make it less useful? Are you going to add an extra set of wheels to your car while you're at it?

how would doing this make it less useful? It would operate the same as it always did, only have a longer mag attached to the stock non detachable mag. Plus I plan to make the longer mag useful by morphing it into a mini storage area.

I don't want the mag to be functional. I want to use it as a storage compartment. Plus I am not thinking about using one as big as a 40 rounder. Do those types come in say 20 or 30 rounders though? where can a guy purchase one?

Whatever floats your boat, I guess. Why you would want your gun to weigh more and become more unwieldy for no apparent reason is beyond me.

Why go through the trouble modifying the mag for use as a storage compartment and attaching it to the original mag, when you can simply remove the original and pop the new one in? Also, the mags go for around $40, so why not use the mag instead of gutting it? Most of the magazines are also plastic, so you will either have to glue the plastic mag to the original, whch will break off in no time, or screw the new one to the old, which would also break off, and mess the original magazine up as well. But its our rifle, so do what you want to it.

OK I have been talked out of it. Where can you order the magazines in say a 30 round capacity. Or maybe even a 20. I don't like the look of the huge 40 rounder.
