Glock RTF2 vs Glock 3.5 Gen.... your thoughts?

I went to my local gun store today and handled a Glock 22 RTF2, and a normal Glock 22 3.5 Generation side by side. I was surprised by how small an improvement the new grip and serrations made. I am sure it cost them a lot to switch everything over, and for such a marginal improvement... if any.

I switched back and forth between the two grip styles about 10 times and still couldn't pick the one that felt better. If I absolutely HAD to pick, and express it in numbers, I would say the RTF2 felt MAYBE 10%-15% better.... if that.

I drove all the way out there, and am no farther ahead in my decision between the RTF2 and standard 3.5 gen. They are so close, that I may just end up basing my decision on looks.... in which case the 3.5 gen wins hands down.

Anyone else here tried them side by side?
 
Handled them?

How about:

Tried them off handed?
Tried it with your hands covered in blood? Mud?
Wet hands?
Tried them with wet patrol or nomex gloves on?
Carried it IWB for a couple weeks?

Are the new serrations snagging on anything when you draw from concealment? Better, worse than before?

Did the old serration edges wear down a bit and lose their edge from rubbing on things in the sandbox? Will the new ones remain sharper and grippier?

Is the new grip material irritating to the skin where carried, or does it catch on a cover garment?

These are the questions I would be asking in a test, and I think some of those might factor into the reasoning for the serration and grip material change.

Not saying these were problems before, just some of the logic.

However, I think the grip and serrations are an improvement, I think the new crescent slide serrations are extremely grabby.

And before anyone says: I shoot IPSC my hands aren't going to be covered in blood, or we cant carry concealed so what do those questions matter..

Remember, it was designed as a combat pistol.
 
I found the RTF2 to be a little too "grippy", great if you shoot with gloves on, not so great if you shoot barehanded. Good for a duty gun on the hip, not so great when concealed.

The slide serrations appeal to me on a functional level but not visually. Personally I feel like I have a better grip on the slide with the new serrations but my fingers look kinda like little Vienna sausages so YMMV.

I like they RTF2, it's not pretty....but if I wanted pretty I wouldn't buy a Glock.
 
Why would having the most grip not be good when you are shooting bare handed?

Too grippy? On a part designed to be gripped?

Yeah it was designed as a combat pistol, but most of us are sport shooters... The OP sounds like a sport shooter to me, so your questions are irrelevant. He's deciding on the differences for him not the military or police...
 
I was commenting on the engineering, and logic behind those choices. Not the OP's needs or preferences, as they were not specified and I would not assume. He didn't specify he is a sport shooter I don't think, and my questions would be relevant none the less. IDPA shooters game from concealment. Many people don't wuss out and shoot/compete in the rain, etc.

PS.. What does the graffiti say? NRA and???

I have soft girlie hands and the grip texture is a tad bit sharp for my liking. It would probably wear down with use.

"Too grippy" was a reference to having to carry and/or draw from concealment holster. Clothes hang on the grip texture.
 
Something else I thought I would add. I just noticed while cutting the lawn a few mins ago that my right palm was sore. I took a look and my skin is fairly raw and sore from the RTF2 texturing. Before I am accused of being a Nancy, note that my occupation is manual labour and my hands while not as calloused as a carpenters or a farmers, are pretty tough and get beat up a lot at work.

Not to say this problem would not subside after building up a callous in that area, but just thought I would add it for informational purposes.

I think Glocks are sharp looking guns! To each their own I guess :D
 
Hold on.. I've handled the RTF Glock but what is RTF2 is there already a second version of the RTF? For what it's worth the RTF Glock in my opinon is crap. I think the little triangular pyramids that stick out from the grips are slightly uncomfortable. The crescent moon looking serrations on the slide look tacky.

If it's not broken, don't fix it.

Ha! I have to admit, I did chuckle when I read that.

By the way, for the record I do believe in innovation and I do appreciate innovations with Glock but what happened to perfection???

Seriously though, what is with the RTF2 designation? Has there already been a revision on the rough texture frame?
