*Full Disclaimer - I really don't know **** from **** when it comes to 1911's, but I sure learned this afternoon. Some of my terminology might be a little off when describing parts, so bear with me*
So I ordered a new Night Hawk trigger and Ed Brown hammer for my Colt Combat Commander here a few weeks ago from Brownells, since they are one of the few places that seem to like to deal with us Canuckians.
Anyways, I took the little bastard apart this afternoon to put the parts in and it all seemed so simple coming apart. So, I get everything out, and I'm looking at my shiny new parts wondering how in the f**k I put this thing back together.
So, I just kind of start on it, not really sure what came from where, but eventually I got it all and at the minimum, it did at least look like it was right, except I have one metal "plate" that came out on disassembley, but I had no idea where this f**king thing went back in.
Anyways, when I got it back together, pretty well nothing was working, I could squeeze the trigger and the hammer wouldn't fall right away, then other times it would.
What was interesting is that I could not get the hammer to stay fully cocked, every time I racked the slide the hammer would fall right away, and that got me thinking. If the hammer keeps falling when the slide moves forward after recoil, say I was shooting it, that would pretty well be a full auto "conversion", would it not????
I messed up and failed to take a picture of this "plate" I'm talking about, but I'll show you this picture and try to explain where it went.
So, if you looking at the gun from the rear, you have those 2 pieces that go inside the frame and then a pin holds them in. This "plate" went on the right hand side of the frame to fill an indentation in (kind of just above the yellow arrow I put in there). When I installed everything without this plate, the fitment of these 2 parts was very sloppy, but when I figured out what needed to happen, it tightened everything right up and the gun now works great.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?
