Folks there have been several cases where guns have gone full auto due to failure or bad smithing and noone has been charged....

And there have been many cases of people transporting restricteds/prohibs without an SAP/ATT... this happens daily (in some cases with the tacit approval of local LEOs) without charges yet it is still a bad idea to admit it on an open forum.

I don't see why this isn't a topic to be a little cautious in discussing. I take it you don't recall that the RCMP has ARBITRARILY, on absolutely no basis except politics, classified several firearms as prohibs. Easily converted to automatic operation = automatic firearm, that much has already been established in the courts. So I'm a little reluctant to discuss openly how exactly one might convert any given firearm to automatic operation.

I can't believe how many threads are on this site dealing with people who take stuff apart when they have absolutely no idea what they are doing.

Yet they act totally amazed when the gun does not work anymore and is unsafe to shoot.

Pile of idiots is my opinion.

Take it to a gunsmith and get back a gun that is safe to shoot.

IMO, everyone should be able to completely strip any pistol/firearm they own. Every gun I buy, the first thing I do is completely strip and reassemble, to familiarize myself with the gun and its parts.

Usually, I enlist the help of youtube or something other online media for the help, but after a couple run throughs, I can usually manage.

Bro, it's a 1911, not the ####ing Atlantis space shuttle. A 1911 consists of 3 pins and some parts. You put it back toghter the same way it comes apart.

Having put things back together backwards once or twice I can't see blaming people for it... My kids have broken toys in the past... heck some of the chinese toys don't even tell which way batteries are supposed go in... It's not a big thing to screw up if it can go in backwards or upside down oh well...

As for the 1911 there are function tests that you are supposed to do when you re-assemble the thing.. But again it's a matter of doing it rather then just sitting on your hands...

It would be a pretty world if this were true, but a lot of gun folks are like a lot of people who drive, they have little or no knowledge of how the machine does what it does. Doesn't make them less of a gun person, just makes them less of a gear head. C'est la vie. - dan
