Hi all. Well, I took the advice offered me on my "Savage 340E & 340D" thread, and ordered a 200 from Cabela's. I've also made a deal from a private internet seller on a Bushnell Banner 3-9 X 40 Dusk and Dawn scope, fitted with Millet Angle-Loc rings. My question is, what base should I buy for it? Should I order a Millet base, or just pick up a Weaver base from the local shop? From what I can see on the Millet website, a Weaver base should work but I'm not sure. Opinions?

I believe the Weaver #46 bases are what you are looking for. With a Bushnell Trophy mounted on a Stevens there is not much room to play with (my set up) so depending on the scope you might need something called #401/402?? extension.

Your going to need extension rings for that scope. I had one on mine and the tube is too short.

Second from left. :)

Check out the Farrel one piece base. It gives you a picatinny rail that offers flexiblity in where the rings are placed. Mysticplayer sells them as does Farrel themselves in the States.

If your Steven is a short action [.223, .22-250, .243, 7mm-08 or .308 etc] and you are trying to mount a scope with a short tube [like the Bushnell Trophy] then if you are using Weaver bases try to get rings that aren't that wide [like Burris Z rings] because Weaver rings are comparitively quite wide and the short tube might not give you much room to adjust for eye relief.

If your Stevens is a "long action" [.270, .30-06 or .300 Win Mag etc] then if you use standard Weaver bases you might not have any room to get the "short tube" scope to fit any rings with the standard bases. You then will either have to get an "extension" base or "extension rings" to give you the room.

However, if you are using a higher end scope with a longer tube, like the Bushnell 3200 series then you may have enough room on the tube to use standard bases and the wider rings, too.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt in trial & error over many years of mounting scopes on rifles of varying action lengths.

Hi guys, first time on this forum and I have a stevens 223 with a 6x18 banner scope and painted stock because the grey is butt ugly( pun intended) imo. Anyway i would put a more powerful scope on your stevens as it is a very easy gun to shoot once you find a nice load. So far i can shoot 1 inch at 200 yards pretty regularly. I shoot 60 grain nosler ballistic tips with 20 grains imr 4198 full length sized. It didn't like the light(short) bullets but i will still try some other ones. Just bought some benchmark today so I'll have to try that. I hope you enjoy your stevens, i sure like mine. Needs a new trigger and stock and oh yeah maybe a new barrel in the future ;) just kidding but really not....\

New trigger, stock and barrel. I have handled these and they are far from a decent rifle. If it is an entry level rifle for a kid or someone who shoots one shot at a deer once a year, then fine. For me the sharp stock that cuts your hands and crude action/trigger both reflect the price.

Your making me want to go out and buy another. You rock. :D

Shot my 270win first time today. Trigger is heavy, but it shots well at 50 yards all 3 touching. (I am new to rifles so I don't know if this is expected at the short distance) I have some issues with sighting in at 100 yards but thats another thread.

I contacted the folks at Weaver, and the gentleman told me to use a #46 rear base, and a #402 extension front base. He said that the Millet rings will work fine. Thanks everyone for your input.
