Sighting in my CZ858 question.

I haven't shot mine at paper much (for groupings), but last week I pegged 2 3" metal plates at 200y with my 858, no problem...its right out of the box. I cant see it not grouping well, even with the surplus ammo. Ill find out I guess.

I went to the gravel pit this past weekend, I was using my car roof as a rest and was getting less then 2 inch groups at 200 yards, open sights, no mods.

I wish I kept that shoot-N-C target.
Sorry, you can't compare a rifle like a CZ-858 to an SKS. Well worth the "3 times whan an SKS is worth."

As for the Op's question - I would listen to Joey (Satain) on whatever he says about 858's.

What ammo did you use to do that?

Are we seeing how far we can piss here? Perhaps you missed handloads? I said handloads and Fiocchi because, they were mixed together in a bag.

I really wished I kept the Shoot-N-C target. Yes, their were a few wingers - this is true.
The rest of them were either in the bull or just outside of it. A friend and I would take 2 shots each, then rotate. I do remember having to aim slightly to the (right?) and high, even with the sight adjusted for 200. I'll have to see if my friend still remembers, this was last summer.

I don't think so...I am just pointing out that I think you would be very hard pressed to find Fiocchi x39 that would do 2" groups at 200 yards if you fired it out of a sixty pound test barrel, let alone out of a semi-auto production gun.

If it was handloads, then I would say it is certainly theoretically possible although naturally it would only mean anything if it were repeatable. If you have a load that is reliably shooting sub-2" groups at 200 yards in an 858 you should post it up, because that is a good load.

At any rate since you've pointed out it isn't difficult you might as well just shut up the naysayers and go do it at a range and have an RO sign off on it.

Although I have to admit that I am confused as to how this happened both last summer and, as you said in post 15, roughly two months ago.

Nothing wrong with Fiocchi hunting loads imo. I find them to be pretty accurate.

I don't reload myself, but have been looking to get into it, for years it would seem. some of the rounds we were using was reloaded by my father inlaws hunting partner. Next time I see him, i'll ask. I didn't think 2 inch groups at 200 was really that special, so it didn't cross my mind. Not to mention, surplus ammo is 100% cheaper then brass hunting ammo.

Sign off on what, that I can do it?

Since I have only ever shot my 858 one time, since the what 2 1/2, 3 years of owning it it's easy to know the exact date of shooting it. I'll agree, last summer to 2 months ago is a big stretch. I'll mark my calendar next time though.

You sure are trying to make it seem as though it's impossible to do such a thing, or discredit me - I don't know/care. Seems someone has an axe to grind.

I have a lot of axes but they are all sharp already...

Most people would find shooting sub-2-inch groups at 200 yards pretty challenging with an 858 is all...since it is easy for you I was thinking that it would be worth swinging by a range, mentioning to the RO that you are going to put some rounds on target at 200 yards, and would he witness and sign the target?

I think you would impress most people here as that would be some good shooting, especially seeing as you've only shot the thing once.

Hold on here, I think you are assuming that i'm saying that my 858 is special. Those shots could have been a fluke, sure. I was aiming for the center (just right and high, once I figured out where it was shooting.) and that's where most of the shots landed. I also said their was a few wingers. It was a shooting compitition between a friend and I, we took more the the standard 3-5 shots. We shot intill my spotting scope couldn't see the target anymore.

Nor am I saying this is the best tool for the job, that's what Blasers are for.

Lastly, apparently it's hard to pick up on sarcasm. I have put more rounds through my 858 then most people even dream about. So yes, I have shot it more then once.

Seems like someone doesn't like being picked on. Lies are hard to stop. Once you start you have to keep going all the way into a corner.

Just kidding...

Delete, not even going to waste my time. It seems jealousy is pretty big on this site.

No matter.

I made a comment earlier and I want to be clear that I was not trying to pick a fight with you, and I don't think anyone else is either.

You are apparently getting better then average results then others get from their 58/858 rifles. A flawless barrel and some nice hand loads seem to be working well for you, and I will leave it at that.

I only made my earlier comment because I do not want to see new 858 owners get unrealistically high expectations and then get disappointed with the performance of their rifles.

If you have lucked into a flawless 1MOA rifle, great! We just need to be clear that most other people should not expect better then 2MOA for this rifle. Most 58/858 owners would be thrilled with 4" groups at 200 yards, and some rifles will not even be capable of that.
