The lure of the 1911 .45 is growing inside of me....I do not want a Norinco, and I cannot afford to go too high right now. I know asking the "best" is difficult, but I am asking, in YOUR opinion, what is the best 1911 out of the box with no adjustments for under a grand. It is for target shooting and maybe one day IDPA.

I also realize that their are some good used deals around, plus armco's 1911s, but right now I am curious about a new 1911.

Thanks for your suggestions!

The STI Spartans are probably the best value for money for an out of the box 1911 under $1000.

Norincos are good entry level guns and are a fine starting point for a custom gun, but they are pretty much a bare bones GI type gun.

One day?!? Why wait? Become a member and come out to shoot :)

Interesting post though, I can feel the itch starting for a 1911 too.

No holster course has been offered at my club since I joined. I also saw something on the website about needing to update the rules for the CFO before shooting in front of the line can occur again...but I have no idea how old that is, the site does not get many updates! I did join the IDPA a while back, just to support it until I can actually participate :)

I'll go with the wave and stay with STI Spartan, but there is also a fully loaded custom 1911 Thompson Ordnance (stainless) at $839. - look in EE forum for dealer DelSelins - now Thompson it's made by US Kahr, a good quality and accurate pistol -...
...or you can find a good Taurus 1911 (Brasil) also under 1K budget.

I recently bought a Sig P226 Titanium Elite and a 3 screw Ruger from Gunnar, great guy to deal with and prices were reasonable.

STI Spartan may be the only one if buying new
Nope, you can have Taurus 1911 for under $1000 tax included. I had one in stainless for over a year now and pretty happy with it. Only thing I changed were the grips :)

ParaOrdnance make really nice 1911s. Apparently the finest if you read the little card that comes with them. I find that with the grip safety pinned and the trigger done just right they're phenomenal shooters. I however have done none of the above to mine and still love it more than most other brand 1911s I've shot. It's probably one of the pistols I'll never part with besides my Taurus PT92 and the only reason I won't sell that thing is because I'll never get the money I put into back into my pocket so I'm going to shoot it until it completely disintegrates then ship it right back to Brazil where that piece of #### came from! Then lets see them cover some warranty work!

Tim.

spartan from armco all the way, mine shoots like a laser, changed the slide release for stainless and still awaiting to upgrade to stainless ambi safety
bought it used for 750
I was amazed at the trigger, it feels better than my single action ruger blackhawk
