Some one has to be able to tell me what this is for.

So here are some slugs that a friend got for me and I was wondering what the right one was for. I'm guessing some kind of frangible slug. But I'm not too sure. As you can see both are Brenneke.
Thanks.

Its the new Swine Flew antidote applicator Crowd Control sabbot being distributed to all medical facilities this fall to prevent the break out of a new world disease so many fear are in the works which will kill 1/3 population world wide. Get on a rooftop anywhere.. pour the liquid antidote in... aim at crowd and fire. Even the tin foil hat brigades cant escape this one. lol

Perhaps this slug was loaded upsidedown at the factory by accident. Brenneke slugs of this classic design, have a felt wad literally screwed onto the base of the shell.
The lefthand slug appears to be a Brenekke Rotweill 12 gauge slug. Excellent stopping power/penetration for larger game, up close of course.

just my guess only.....

I would go with the loaded upside down theory. That looks and sounds right to me.

The configuration is not that of the underside of a traditional Brenneke slug, but I don't know what it is. Rottweil Brenneke has a recall on some ammunition. Brennek USA say their product line is unaffected by this recall, but neither does the recall identify a slug that looks any different than normal, just that the slug may stick in the barrel and result in a catastrophic failure with the firing of a subsequent round. Interesting looking slug, I would be inclined not to shoot it until you had it identified, just from the point of view of something that is unusual.

Even if it was a mistake, it is still sweet. A Hollow point slug! I'm gonna git you sucka!

Oh I'll tell you that its no bear banger! and ya my buddy has a whole wack of them.
So here is a side profile (thanks to the clear plastic) you can see that there is a cup shape under the main slug. it appears that once it hit the target the cup pushes through and expands the slug from the rear. You can see it just above the wad.

I think that cup likely has more to do with flight stabilization than "rear driven expansion". It is probably just a manufacturers defect, but you should try it on a cat and see what happens. *Mumbles to self angrily "Stupid cats".... :)

agreed, just like the skirt on a pellet.

Isn't that one of those rounds the special force types use to blow hinges off doors? Massive damage on impact, little penetration. Take out the hinge but won't kill the hosties on the other side.
