264 win mag

With a 24" pipe you get 3150 instead of 3200 with the 26",so what.
Couple of us 264 nuts have had problems with RL-25,in this cartridge,it's far too temperature sensistive to even shoot 3 shot groups. Accurate Magpro and Ramshot Magnum were the best powders for mine.

264 ruger

For those interested, I ordered a Ruger 264, took a year to come in and we where never sure it was going to show up. I have since bought a beautiful Sako Finnbear in 264....the Ruger showed up today:( Call Del Selins in Vernon if you want one...one only.

We brouht in a CDL spec ed for a client. He's a ember here; nice rifle and only took a couple of weeks. Also, we've got a few Ruger Hawkeye's coming that will be here on the 22nd of July; some are spoken for but a few still avalable. Last I checed in both ss/sn and blued/walnut.

when did you order those Hawkeyes' Clay? Mine has been about 10 months. I'd have kept it but ya know, that old Sako Finnbear is one sweet feeling rig! Lighter then the Ruger too, that surprised me. My only concern is that I don't want to bang up the Sako and that's one reason I ordered the Ruger, but I'm glad I payed the extra now for that Sako, can't wait to shoot it:D

A few weks ago. I was just looking over the order; looks like we might have just the ss/syn left.

I can't believe all this worry about barrel life...if you shoot the barrel out of your 264 consider yourself lucky...I'd love to be able to do that much shooting.....:D..and a 24" barrel is no handicap on a 264...there could be more variation in velocity between two barrels of the same length than you'll lose in a 24" compared to a 26" barrel
A local guy here has a 24" 7mmSTW and was told the same thing...but it pegs the chrony at 3400+ with a 139 Hornady...and I personally fired a 24" Weatherby Vanguard Sub MOA 257 Wtby that chronyed 3648 with a 100gr Barnes XLC........so I don't think a 264 will suffer in a 24" tube...

High guys I am the one Clay(sako alberta) brought the special run CDL remington in 264for. Helluva shooter and worth the effort. Thanks again Clay. Comparing the two Win model 70 24" and the CDL 26" with the exact same load there is only 37 fps average diffrence between the 2.

I've had a couple 264's on in a 26" and one in a 31" heavy, they both shot really well. The 26" in barrel really liked Retumbo and nosler 130grn Accubonds. The load I had would kick'em out at 3300FPS, and shoot MOA. Was a very nice combo for hunting, but the Noslers do tend to be hard on meat if you are strictly hunting for meat use sierra or Hrndy.

Very interesting, and if I had to shoot Deer at 600 meters...I'd be tempted, as I like the performance of the .264 bullet a lot.

Barrel wear.....wawawawa. Who cares......shoot the hell out of it and get a new pipe when required. Very few shooter have ever worn out a barrel. Competative shooter kill a few barrels but if your not shooting matches with it then you will likely have it traded/sold/stolen/lost/broken/ect. before you ever wear out the barrel. Having truly worn out a barrel is a feather in your cap..... something to brag about. Get a 264 and shoot, shoot, shoot.

If you wear one out, stick it out where everyone can see it and show it off with pride. The .257 Weatherby and .264 Winchester always get a bad rap as barrel-burners, but in all honesty they are plenty fine in terms of barrel life. Keep the bores clean and remove any fouling as early and as often as possible and I highly doubt you'll shoot it out under normal usage.

37 FPS difference measured with same load, 24" vs. 26". Enough said there. A 26" pipe does look good though...
The new powders must account for that little of a difference? I always heard 50+ FPS loss per inch of barrel reduction.
