Got a hankerin' for a 'precision' .233/5.56.
Started looking in my local dealer's rack and found two options...
First up, a Bushmaster Varminter..24" chrome-moly barrel, 1:9 twist with a very nice trigger VS a DPMS Panter Bull 24 Special...same idea as the Bushmaster, but with a heavy, fluted stainless barrel...same twist (1:9)..not as nice a trigger...pretty much the same price.
I know I'll be limited to 77 grain and lighter projectiles, but no biggee.....
Which would you suggest and why....
I'm also open to completely different recommendations.

I like DPMS personally. However Bushmaster and DPMS are owned by the same company (also owns remington) so they are very likely similar now. Both are nice. If you don't mind the camo, the remington R-15's are bushmasters, and they seem very nice. I am considering one for myself. You will probably be very happy with either, having the opportunity to have both in hand at the store is a BIG plus for you.

You will most likely be in a lottery as to which performs the best. The 2 rifles are so close(according to the internet) that the individual rifle you luck into will be more important them the manufacturer.

Like Prestwich says though, don't discount the R-15. It is a Bushmaster. I have put several thousand rounds through mine, and although most of the shooting is positional(but out to 600m), the rifle handily outshoots me with no load development.

If you are worried about the rifle not being a performer, order a R-15, and a krieger. That is what I did, but in reality, the krieger is still waiting for a lull to be mounted.

I have had both of the guns mentioned plus a Predator. The Bushmaster it easily the way to go for out of the box accuracy and the barrel contour made the gun much more pleasant to handle and shoot than the super heavy DPMS. The Bushy has a much more attractive float tube as well. I would say that a Predator with the 1/8" twist and 20" barrel would be the way to go if that is a possibility.

I will have to check but I am running 77 grain SMK, IVI brass, Varget power 24.3 grain (not sure here will have to make sure) CCI BR-4 primers, loaded to mag length of course. GT had a nice 69 grain recipe that gave kick ass results too.

For what purpose? Pinking, long range?

I mainly punch paper at 100yrds, but would still like something that works out to 500 or so.
I have been using the 69gr.SMK over top of varying amounts of Varget, with either Federal 205M or CCI 450 primers.
