dose anyone have any load data with .223 and H4831 i found it is not far from varget on burn data tables but i wanted to know if anyone has cooked up a load that works with it i love my varget but its hard to get at times and i want to find different powers to use when i cant get varget but i would like a base line to start with i was thinking or starting with 20Gr or powder behind a 75GR hornady HPBT just wanting to check with people because i cant find any load data in any reloading websight

H4831 is too slow for .223

117. Varget (Hodgdon)
152. H4831 (Hodgdon)

There are a few Hodgdon powders between those 2 including:
130. H380 (Hodgdon)
133. H414 (Hodgdon)
and
140. H4350 (Hodgdon)

I dunno what burn rate chart you looked at but 30+ powders between Varget and H4831 is a lot.

Depending on what bullet you are choosing to use, if you go with lighter 50-60grn bullets, there are a few of the faster powders like H322 and Benchmark that work well in the .223.

An alternative for Varget would be H4895 which is much closer (still faster) in burn rate, BL-C2 is another that can be used.

I guess by now you have it figured out that H4831 is a much too slow burning powder for the 223.
However, if you want sure proof it is too slow, here is what you do. Fill a case with H4831 and seat a bullet.
When it goes off and you hear a "woof," instead of a bang, you know the powder was too slow!
