The family is complete. I am thinking about swapping the barrels between the flat-top and the carbine.....

You're missing the 551 LB, 16" 551, 552 LB, 553, early production 550, pump-action 550, Sniper, and all the flat-top variants for the above mentioned models. :D

You have your ankles wet so far.

Then there's accessories...

Now that's a good looking family! A flat top carbine is a great idea. Did SAN ever make these, or still do for that matter?

I've been playing with the idea of getting a troy or a samson rail for the Sig 556 and having it mounted to my Carbine.

Talked to a gunsmith at Corlane Sports in Dawson Creek today, and he said that its not all that difficult to do, as the hand guards are the same dimensions.

The Troy sounds like a better choice, but note carefully that the forward end of rail has an extension designed to seat directly over the gas regulator block.

As the 556 has no sights, its not a problem on that gun. On the SAN Carbine, some unsavory milling work might be required.

Call me. I'll fill you in under way and copy you on photos as the work rolls in.

I prefer the rock in magazine.

Some people laugh at the notion. But then again, I've never seen an AK style magazine fall out. They are either seated or not even close.

Seen more than one AR mag drop out the bottom though.

Would the TROY handguard work with the "Black Special"flattop it has no sights, just the fold down back up on the rear?

Either works fine for me but cheap AR Pmags and 10rd RRA mags would make it all worthwhile.
