On a trip last week/weekend to Summerland for a family reuinion I was lucky enough to have the good timing to join mysticplayer and some other CGNers for a long range shoot out in the middle of nowhere behind Summerland.
It was a great location allowing for a clear shot out to 1500 yards depending on what you were aiming at.
We set up a few gongs from around 600-800yards and shot at natural targets at 1030yards and just shy of 1500 yards
It was an awesome time and some of the guys brought some really nice equipment. Mostly .308s but also .338LM, .284 IIRC and .223
I'm sure the other guys there will chime in with more details but we had a great time though thats for sure, boy was it hot though!
This was my first real long range experience and it was a great learning opportunity for me and I'm definitely hooked. Shooting tiny groups at 100yards is one thing, but being able to not only hit a small target way out there but also see the bullet hit as you have time to look back down your scope is pretty awesome.
Setting up the gongs, you can see our firing position back in the shade under the trees back in the red circle
Don't know how well you can see it but here were the main target areas, the gongs were on the hill we could actually reach, the others was a small stump named the "Gopher" at 1035 and a rock at IIRC around 1480 yards.
This .338LM had no troubles hitting that far rock, awesome work by the shooter though
Thanks to mysticplayer for making this happen and for all the lessons gained!
