Ammo "sorter"?

I have a metal ammo crate about half full of bulk .22LR ammo and since I only have two mags, I find myself "counting" out ammo just as much as I shoot (fire two mags, open the ammo crate, count out 10, load a mag, count another 10, load the other mag, etc). Mainly I'm looking for a type of box or something where I can "precount" out the ammo so when I have to reload a mag I can simply grab exactly 10 rounds.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense but Im not sure how to explain it. Roughly I want to sort out my bulk ammo into 10 round containers or sections of a container or something like that.

Also it's a way for me to keep better tracking of my ammo usage at the end of the day! :D

Go out to your local ammo store and get a plastic box of 100 Winchester Super X rimfire rounds. Le Baron and Bass Pro both sell them, and I assume they are fairly common.

I fill this box over and over again. You just slide the lid back for however many rounds you need. The lid slides in a slit, so if you flip the box over, only the exposed rounds will fall out. It has rows of five, so if you want 10 rounds, just slide it back 2 rows, and flip out the rounds.

I have a ton of these boxes. They are great for the exact purpose you want them for.

Thats what I first thought about but didn't want the hassle of dealing with a crap load of small baggies! :D

Now that is a good option and makes since. I prefer to buy ammo in bricks since it's cheaper but maybe I'll pick up a couple of those and keep refilling them! Thanks!
 
It sounds like you have detachable mags....:p

B/c I have 2 or 3 tube-fed rimfires (bad memory! ;)), I have the following system in place:

(1) I go to the local Mac's and ask for a slew of "Froster" straws (the brand-name is actually Stone :)),

(2) I staple the "non-scoop" end shut,

(3) I load 9 cartridges (.22 LR) into each straw (bullet-first; more than 9 LR and they tend to spill out),

(4) I place the (many :D) "loaded" straws into a Pringles cannister, and

(5) before loading, I "top-off" any given straw with 1 more cartridge, and then slide all the cartridges f/the given straw down (base-first) into the tube-magazine.

Simply, easy, cheap as borscht, and it works. :yingyang:

One more thing: The "CCI-lid-method" is great, too.

I use the plastic cases too...find many at the range in the garbage cans. Great for my Marlins as they take 15 LR shells and the lids can be pulled back to get the right number. Reloading box mags are one at a time so it really cannot get much faster even if from a bulk box or a plastic container. that is why I use a tube fed in the fields. Even if you have 10 mags, they all take a lot of time to reload when they are empty.
 
1. Grab a handful

2. Stuff into mag until full

3. Throw the rest back into the box

I fail to see the difficulty...

Actually I use CCI boxes like the Win ones above.

Also, what is "mac's"?:redface:

For detachable magazines, if I want to be exact, I use old 100rd cases as well. I keep all .22 boxes cause I find them useful for holding screws and other stuff too.

It is just a bit easier to load the right number without having to load then unload one round every time. It would be fine for a little while, but that extra round every mag will make your thumb sore that much faster, espescially if he will be shooting a lot.
 
I just carry my ammo in a fanny pack when I'm in the field and reload when the targets die down. I count my shots so I know when to reload before the mag is dry. When I was using 25 rounders I usually topped them up after 10 rounds or so in case I ran into a herd of gophers and needed to lay down the law in a hurry.:D
 
I loaded all the empty CCI containers I could find. Go to the range and grab the empties after the handgun guys are done for the day. I still need to find a few more empty container for the other 1500 rounds. :D
The easiest way to load the containers is to gently shake the bulk packs so the lead bullets point down. Then grab a few at a time buy the rims and drop them in the holes. Just let them fall into whatever hole and fill the gaps as you go. Trying to fill it row by row or one at a time take WAY longer.

I just fill one of the pockets in my pants and top up as I go. Since my wife likes her pants a little more on the snug fitting side (pockets aren't for utility, they're for fashion apparently) I'm looking for a fanny pack for her.

ammo is stored either in the ammo can I recently picked up from Princess Auto (he little 9mm cans can easily hold 6 or 7 bricks) or a half-gallon ice cream pail (the plastic 1.89L ones) for my wife's supply.
 
if you shoot a 10/22 the magazine loaders work great! i dump fifty or so rounds into mine (from shooters ridge, it will hold 74 rounds if i stuff it full) pop a mag on the end and crank away. it is not super fast as i imagined it would be, but it saves a lot of fumbling with those tiny little .22s! count your rounds as you crank and close the loading gate when your mag is full, so you dont spill any cartridges. one problem though... you will spend a lot more money on ammo!!!

Thats what I do... then you just open the top until you can get 2 rows out and poof... a magical 10 and no counting lol.
 
I just count mine as I load them, I have a weird habbit of counting things since I have been going to the gym.

But I have a 10/22 so once you cannot force anymore in you are loaded up.
