sorry, the m1a dates back to about 1970 or so as springfield armory - the government sprirngfield armory closed about 68- the company owned version then had to get a batf approved form of the rifle which was not f/a capable and get the name registered- took about 2 years before they were up and running as a company- springfield armory of texas, i believe at first

I stand corrected.

Either way mine says:

M14 308
Springfield Mich
CJA
norinco made in china

I have to ask why wouldn't I call it a M14.

Why do you call your M305's an M14? It's not an M14!
It's a clone of an American made SPRINGFIELD ARMORY M1A! Even the M1A doesn't have a selector switch like the M14. I don't call my SA M1A STANDARD AN M14.
Norinco doesn't even come close to the real thing!
If you don't own an M14, don't call it one.

We could call it Thunderstick. Or maybe Le Boom-Boom.

Did you use the M14 when you served in the Marine Corps?

Mine is marked as an M14, too. No sense in engaging in semantic masturbation when people clearly know what you are talking about. GI M14s, Springfield M1As, and Norinco M305s/M14Ss are all M14 type rifles.

P.S.: apostrophes indicate the possessive form of a word, not the plural. For example:
Correct: M14s
Incorrect: M14's

what would you call it then? The firearm design of these battle rifles all stem from the u.s. M14 rifle. So what if there are different companys manufacturing them, its still the "m14" platform.

If your argument is along the lines of m16 vs ar15, the ar is the platform and the m16 is a u.s. Specific build on that platform. So ya, calling your ar build an m16 isn't really correct (its your rifle though, call it what you like)
but in the case of the m14, the m14 is the system and the u.s. Happened to use it and designate it... So your m1a/m305/m14s etc, are all non-selective variants of an m14 rifle.

(at the range) excuse me sir, i couldn't help noticing the nice paint job on the 'non-selective variant of an m14 rifle' your shooting today, what kind of paint did you use?

Meh, whatever.

dumb ass

It's not paint on my M1A.
Actually, Colt was the original M16, AR15, Sporter etc.... Every other company is a copy cat of the Colt. Even the C7 is a copy. Don't talk crap you don't know enough about.

Thanks for the lesson but your preaching to the chior troll.

"...Norinco doesn't even come close to the real thing!..." Neither does an M1A. Even the early ones that had the cut out for the selector on the stock. Very early M1A's were built out of milsurp parts though.

MY DAD CAN BEAT UP YOUR DAD!
