CFB Borden Service CQB Clinic 18 July 09

Speaking of 'next time'... there is no Service CQB Clinic for August :( and our next one is on 19 Sep 09. That's a long time to wait. On the other hand, here's your chance to work on you slings, chest rigs, pistol draw (then rack), magazine changes; all in front of the mirror since it's all about looking good ;)

Ha ha ha

I'll be back..... (Governor of California, Arnie)

I agree, I didn't think it would be an issue.:D

Yeah....the majority of practices we run are from extremly close range....15m and closer with only two from the 25m point. The guys shooting MP5's in the past had no issues at all firing the C7/C8 practices so I kept them as is but the MP5 practices from the CFOSP range from 10-50m.

I find it easier to keep it all the same.

I'll ask again. Does Base Borden have a gun club ?

Hungry here: None of us know... but what we do know is that we drive right by the Base Borden Rod and Gun Club and since few of us are uniforms (read:CF members) we are not allowed to join! I don't know how active their shooting body is.

Maybe you should start up a thread?

The Ontario Rifle Association practices at Base Borden. If you want to shoot at Base Borden you join ORA.

Saw an interesting way to secure the carbine over the weekend. Rather than a sling around the body and one shoulder, it is a simple "Y" secured to the shoulder straps of the chest rig, with a snap hook in the centre. The carbine had the expected ring between the stock tube and receiver. When attached, the carbine hangs straight down, no shifting.

Those have been around for awhile - Chris Caracci was using one pretty much identical back in the early-mid 90's or so -however they have never really been widely accepted. Probably because there are lots of times when it is necessary to move the long gun to the side or rear of the body and they make it pretty much impossible.

I would imagine that their application is fairly limited...

If someone has that sort of "sling" its a fricken pain in the ass if he/she is wounded and you need to sling their long gun...

On Rifle Cal Carbines versus SubGuns for matches
David Pennington was making hits offhand with his MP-5 at 275m when a lot of us had failed out prior to that range on one of LAV's walk back drills. Ballistically the pistol cal subgun has lost out at those ranges, but a good shooter can easily make up for the added drop.

great time

had a great time . Been out of the sport for a couple years but getting up to speed again . Thanks Hungry for the few extra gun runs . And Tims jokes are good . Great to see Lonewolf again .

I don't imagine David Pennington is your "average" MP-5 shooter but it certainly demonstrates what can be done with the system. It is certainly attractive from an economy standpoint as would be an AR in 9mm...

I'm not a huge fan of 9mm carbines, but for people who don't have have a large government or company ammo budget they definetly are better than not shooting.

However

9mm, .40S&W, 10mm, .45ACP carbines/SMG's are great for areas where the training template does not allow for rifle rounds even frangible :(

Cleaning and arranging (your kit) is cognitive, and in the moment. ALL "players" ensure their kit is not their Achilles heel. So learn to revel in the process, respect it I say to myself. This is difficult as my master suggests that I am a meatstick and my hands are broomhandles. He is full of wisdom : )

Thankfully, wisdom both embraces and encompasses patience. I must realize that a clean kit is next to Godliness : ) My awakening is slow and painful, yet sublime...I am hungry...
