Anyway we were close on the price $15 dollars apart, so that wasn't a big deal, what really turned me off was the NO on the inspection part. In this forum with the older and collectable rifles ,I would be careful about what I buy based on someone elses opinion on what the grade is, (VG to the seller may not be VG to the buyer!) The 3 day in inspection would cost the seller nothing!!

Generally on Gunbroker and Auction Arms in the States, there are many sellers
that state no dissassembly and shooting in the 3 day inspection. Ask for pics and lots of them. I have never sent back a gun yet that had good pics.

The worst case scenario:
You get some Newbie Buyer that doesn't know his assshole from a hole in the ground, taking it apart, wrecks it, admits it, because he knows it all-or thinks he does, then wants $100 back due to buyers remorse because he can get it cheaper somewhere else or he'll give you negative feedback. Now that's an A--Hole.

I never had a bad deal on this forum until recently. Seller sent me a Snider rifle and carbine, both of which he said were DC marked, and "not cleaned or messed with". The rifle is missing the ramrod, has a sear so worn it won't ####, is missing the rear sling swivel and has the breech latch rusted solid in the receiver. The carbine has the butt trap broken off, a broken firing pin. And neither of them are DC marked. I could forgive them being in rough condition, and to his credit he did offer me a replacement ramrod and firing pin.

But what pisses me off is that he lied to me, espescially about the markings. It's either DC marked or it isn't, there's no room for interpretation there. I've asked for a refund more than once, including me paying shipping, and he's refused - I haven't shot them, cleaned them or touched a single screw. I gave him one more chance before leaving negative feedback. Am I being unreasonable here?

Give them a chance to do it right, fix it or refund it. If not That's what neg feedback is for.......
 
If I get my asking price, close to it, or what is a very reasonable price then I would consider a 3 day non-shooting inspection. Would be more amenable to people with a good reputation (quite frankly who is to say the buyer didn't go out and shoot it, swap parts etc). Haggle hard and/or low ball the price, that condition of inspection would most likely evaporate very quickly. People can't have their cake and eat it to as they say. It works both ways, guys. Ask for pics and lots of them and you can protect yourself quite a bit.
 
To add further, I have had two deals that were not perfect and both worked out alright in the end.

One as the seller. buyer came back to me and told me a small part broke during shipping. A highly doubted it as I packed and wrapped very well, and i also used his preferred shipping and his account to do it so i had a bit more running around to do than normal. However i got a good price from him, and how can I really argue the point one way or another without a lot of hassle so I spent the $30 bucks and replaced it. He then came back to me about 8-10 days later and said the forestock was now cracked! At that point old him too bad and how could he have missed that during his inspection?!

Second as a buyer, bought some parts, a couple of them were not as described, so i told him so, we settled very quickly on a partial refund and all was good.

Point is, if the 2 parties are reasonable, you will quickly come to a new agreement. If one of them is a ####, the other one is screwed, no matter what prior agreement is reached.
 
Most collectors out there know me. I've had 1 man in The Peg owe me 30 and disappearred, saskatchewan 20 for mail, and one in alberta owes couple hundred. These could be misunderstandings. However I will offer a major purchase from one of them in the future with money owed subtracted from my offer. I love to do deals. It can be worked out.
