K98 RC where to ?

Collector's Source has them in Milton (online store). They're about the $425 bracket if I recall. EE always has something in a Mauser up as well.

Rc k98

What you want is:
Swaztica's not peened/defaced.
Prefer without Russian "X" on receiver.
VG+ bore.
I'd contact Jean at PSMILITARIA first.
Tony at Tradeex is another good source.
Better yet, put a WTB RC 98 on the EE here and you'll get some offered.
Good as "shooters", but not collectable.IMHO

longbranch, why do you and so many others curl your noses up at the "Russian Capture" K98s? They are legitimate ftrs and legitimate battle rifles. What more do you want? They are a motley group of mixmasters I will agree but they are legitimate and collectable as such. Many are extremly nice as well.
I won't call anyone down for refinishing one but I do feel they should be left as is. Refinishing a RC would be like refinishing any other milsurp, no matter what provenance it hails from.

No one gets excited about a "Norwegian Capture", either in original 8x57 or ftr in 30-06. Some of those Norwegian rifles are real dogs as well but no one complains.

RC K98s range anywhere from crap to excellent it's like anything else, "Caveat Emptor".

Most RC's I've seen are in excellent condition and not peened. I'd call them entry level collectable, while they may not be 'original' they are untouched since leaving the Soviets and that has to count for something. A great buy for someone just starting the hobby and in their current condition they'll only increase in value as more and more people refinish them. I have a few, I refinished one (it was really fugly) but have left the others as is and I love all three.

There was a huge slugfest last year on the subject of the RC mauser They are far more common than non-RC, so worth far less. If people want to collect them, then they are collectable. If people want to alter them to suit their preferences and then shoot them, they're altered RC's and then worth whatever someone would want to pay for them. The most common misconception is that they were all seized from the hand of a dead, dying or captured soldier, when in fact the vast majority were taken from stores and depots, but that's part of the romance for some people. I have one and enjoy shooting and handling it - a great way to own a mauser (while they last...).

RC's

I've had two go through my hands this past year. One a very clean 42 BNZ with really decent blue, even the extractor wasn't usual purple colour. The other a 1938 S/42, not near as nice but bought it for the Mauser banner marked stock. Needed the space for others so out they went. I'd buy another RC if a "Banner" or letter marked ie:S/42G.
