I have a 3200 5-15x40AO tactical and just acquired a 4200 6-24x50 tactical. Is it my imagination, or is the 5-15x40 noticeably sharper image than the 4200 6-24x50, even when both are set to the same magnification?

Check your focus. I did a comparison as I have 3 of them. Two 3200 and the one 4200. Everyone for years had been saying how much better the optics on the 4200 is so much better then the 3200. They are exactly the same. The 4200 is a nicer/bigger picture only because it is a 30mm tube instead of 1" and is a 50mm objective instead of a 40mm.

The side paralax setting or the ocular focus? My eyes seem very tolerant of a wide range of settings on the ocular focus, but pretty sensitive to the paralax adjust.

Both. Set the ocular for the reticle, the side parallax for the image. You might need to monkey a bit with both to find the sweet spot for your eyes.

For my eyes, the 4200's are way better. however, the 6x24-50 does loose a bit of resolution at 24X vs the AO scopes.

I used quite a few 3200's but gave up as they just didn't have the resolution/clarity I needed.

It might just be my application. I have the 3200 on a conventional rifle and the 4200 on an AR-15. I find the AR-15 positioning and stock are causing me to experience a lot of scope wink and eye fatique. The A2 stock seems to me to be best suited to shooting off hand. When I shoot prone or off the bench, I have to really crank my head up and I feel like I'm looking through my top eyelid half of the time. Nevertheless, the tac 3200 5-15 is a pretty decent scope for the money.

They are great scopes. I was selling one of my 3200 tacticals but after seeing what it would sell for I decided to keep it and put it on my 10/22T instead.
