07/26/09 9mm ammo cost?

Calculations

I made a few adjustments to your figures there. I didn't include shipping or tax or the time it takes you to actually make up 4,000 rounds. How long would that take?

I mold lead heads and reload 9mm. Cost per 1,000:
- Primer $40
- Powder 1 lb. $30
- Brass $25
- 35 lbs. lead $35
- liquid lube $10

Reloading cost/1k = $140

Wolf Bullets 9mm Ammo = $11.08/50rnds or $221.60/1k

Savings = $81.60/1k

The 2009 savings compared to factory ammo totals $326.40.

I wonder how much shipping would be for him (from Kingston to Vancouver) on 4,000 rounds? My gut feeling is that would probably increase the cost substantially?

I'm currently in the same situation with .40 ammo, I can buy Wolf reloads for $17+tax or try to make my own but I think the cost saving might be marginal at best.

Just curious, are commercial reloads available locally in most areas of the country? are prices comparable to say, Wolf? It would be interesting to see a comparison of that too, so we can compare apples to apples.

K7L4X1 (Kingston) to V6P6G2 (Vancouver) 1000 rounds, ground, via www.canpar.ca small boxes measuring 15x15 (45lbs) is $56.54

I was just guessing as to weight and size of box.
Would anyone know the actual weight?

My saving over 4,000 rds. at the re-calculated (using the Wolf's pricing from Ont.) $326 + shipping of $160 (4 x $40/1000) = $486

That's approx. 1,800 rds of "free" Wolf 9mm ammo (w/ shipping Ont to Vnc.). For most of us shooters, that's heaven.

The listed cost of materials is a guide for those thinking about doing their own loads. My actual cost/1,000 9mm rds. is closer to $90 (or less) as all lead and brass used are free. My actual accumulated 2009 savings are enough funds to purchase material and pump out 5,400+ of "free" 9mm reloads. And to think, .40 and .45 are also loaded. Definitely worth it - if one shoots often!!!

With the RCBS single stage, it does take time though, but sitting in the patio, with dogs on hand, makes for many relaxing weekend afternoons.:canadaFlag::cheers::ar15:

For those in the Vancouver Lower Mainland, PM if you want a contact for quality 9mm FMJ reloads. $130/500 rounds which includes taxes.

I shipped 5000 rounds for about $200 from Kingston to Burnaby (just outside Vancouver)
