LFWA CFSAC concentration

Good of you to offer, Phil...you can start with cleaning up that Enfield of mine;)

Great range BTW. X2 on getting the pistol range done ASAP.

Range Warden needs a raise too for the hard work he's been doing.

The concentration was excellent and everyone showed improvement on rifle and pistol. Good crew to work with (Reg and Res, no difference). Hope to see everyone at the next concentration and at CFSAC.

Bring it over, when your wife lets you out of the house :p
Pistol range should be out to contract for the basic work this summer and then there will be a series of improvements as time and funds become available. :D

Good luck to all.

It's good to hear that LFWA is getting back into the shooting world. I spent many a summer training and competing at 1 Brigade, BCRA and CFSAC shoots. I served with each of the three Patricia BN's, but spent most of my regimental duty with the 3rd Bn in Victoria, and was on the SAT for the whole time. Went to Bisley three times (85, 86, 89). One trip was cancelled (Gulf War) and I had to turn the other two down due to postings, etc. So I could have gone 5 times (and probably should have!!!). I know Dave Oakie fairly well; great guy and an outstanding shooter. Anyway, have a good one boys - shoot hard!!

Welcome to Gunnutz.

Wow a brigade or unit shooting competition, what a concept for the army. hopefully the interest keeps rolling with the younger shooters if they have a good time and learn something this summer.

I hope some of you fellows get out to some IDPA matches to practice your pistol skills. I know the clubs have the welcome mat out for you.

Hey, bud: Yeah, if the LFWA Commander is really keen on standing up a SAT from the various units, it's really the only way to ensure that the best shooters go to the Nationals at Connaught. And the only way to ensure that the unit's best shooters compete at the Area level is to hold a BN/Unit competition or tryouts. Kind of tough right now, given the operational tempo. A good team takes time and money for proper training, in order to be competitive. This has always been a sore point, as no one likes to lose, and I HATED it when we got our hands tied behind us prior to a big competition, by not being allowed to train for what I considered an acceptable period of time. Some CO's were good, some not so much. And we did have to go on course, taskings, exercises, etc. The Team Captain has to get really blunt and direct with his end ex report; if he can get the Area Comd behind your efforts, it should be good.

We have been trying for years to get a brigade shoot. The BCRA is a perfect fit.Just ad soldiers!
The LFWA reserve team just came off a successful volunteer training weekend.Three days of solid shooting, working on all the tough matches including the new match 4.Its actually not that difficult, but I can see it being a nightmare to run in the butts.
We have another practice in august before we leave. Its gonna be a good shoot this year!

At least we now have a Commander in LFWA who wants people to shoot, and wants them to win. But what happens when he gets posted? The next guy might hate shooting. The issue is that interest in and support for Advanced Marksmanship Training is personality-dependent...and that is tragic.

The challenge is this - How do we re-institutionalize shooting into the Army Culture?

I think one way to make it happen is to make it "personal" and bottom up. If you had one unit challenge another to a "friendly" rifle competition, you can bet the losing unit CO would be putting a lot more focus on training for a revenge match. This may or may not catch on.

But a top-down is needed even more. There's a lot of lip service to the "Warrior Spirit" but when I look at the Public Affairs products and various announcements, they're all for running, or charity bake sales, or adventure training. And there's nothing wrong with them - they all serve their purpose - but there's a lot more interest in going to the Army Run than shooting on CFSAC. And I think it's completely backwards.

Here's a benchmark - When shooting competitions in (for example) 1 CMBG have as much interest as Strong Contender, we'll have won a major victory.

I would love to see unit to unit shooting smackdowns, they would be great if they were kept simple.

Maybe I'll see if I can convince the CO to throw a gauntlet this fall for yucks. I think a certain midwestern HQ with a few supposed shooting enthusiasts would be a good first target. :p:D

Looking forward to getting some members out shooting in Olds and even get fired up to eventually run some matches in Edmonton to get a critical mass. Appreciate the support!

Why go that far...isn't there enough rivalry among the Bns as it is? :p

Seriously, though...brilliant idea. 3VP b*tch-slapping some other units/fmns would be be fun to watch. Actually, the aftermath and frantic rifle and pistol training from the losers would be even MORE fun!

But it would achieve the desired effect!

I'd like to see civilian / military competition happening at the provincial rifle association / battalion level much like what we are seeing at a national level of NSCC and now starting at the local IDPA level...albeit more involvement overall.;)

Would/could the Edmonton Garrison shooting club be interested in hosting service conditions shooting? Do military guys want to see more 'run & gun' type competitions we see with IDPA, but with service rifles? Seeing that type of format's success at the club / unit level may convince further evolution of the NSCC/CFSAC service conditions courses of fire for rifle matches...

It was done for years at the BCRA, so why couldn't it happen here? It would require no small amount of effort, but I think it would be worth it. It would be awesome training for the Regular and Reserve teams prior to the Nationals, and for any civilian shooters who intend to go. Anyone else's thoughts?

Seeing that I run the Edmonton Garrison club I think that's exactly what I'm planning.:D The club is re-orienting from black powder and cowboy shooting (not that there's anything wrong with that) to Service Conditions and combat pistol. Of course there will have to be a fall time out to zero properly for hunting...

I can not guarantee 100% devotion to IDPA, DCRA etc. we hafta spread the gun love after all but hopefully we can make the Edmonton Garrison club a must hit on the Alberta competition shooting circuit each year. The challenge is keeping the interest/inertia going when your core of shooters deploy every 1.5-2 years for two way range training.

And I wonder what kind of a #### storm we would cause if a certain reserve unit came out and kicked all your asses ;)
If that wouldn't cause an uproar for serious marksmanship training I'm not sure anything would.

:rockOn:As long as we can scam out to Chwk again for the smackdown we'll find an excuse. 3 VP Basic Recce course in the fall/winter this year may do a phase in Chwk. mmmmm watermanship training in october :(
