Your Personal Top 10 Canadian Big Game Calibers

Not a problem, name what favorites you do have and suppliment the remainder with what else you'd 'like to have':). A wish list if you will;):D.

well if its a wish list I want a 416 Weatherby Mag :D I hear those PEI groundhogs are nasty I don't want to be undergunned :p

I have a 7mmRM that I keep as my backup huntin rifle, its a good all around rifle. I also have several 308 they are also good all around rifles just not as flat shooting as the 7mmRM

What I may pickup in the future is a 7-08 nice little round there, like it in a shorter carbine package

The 416 will be a clasic hunting rifle, perhaps laminated wood stock.

There are reasons I first suggested a relatively large number, 10, of possible choices and along with what you have, some additionals as a 'wish list'. 1st of all, again because I like the variety of choice. 2nd, because of what seems to be adequate for me on the island with Deer size, ranges and terrain, getting out in the open country of AB and difference in Deer size, nolonger 'seem' adequate.

Mentioning a 416, my Son In Law is using a 416 Remington in Namibia Africa as we speak. I may 'need' one, but prior to that, my next planned rifle acquisition is a 358 Norma Magnum. It's a bit of variety I feel I must have, I mean 'need':).

I can understand that. Mine with 265gr handloads has dropped a few Moose, and as it's served me well, I gotta' keep it. I need it;)!

Therein is the flexibility reasoning of this thread. Someone;) once said " I have a dream". ;)Me to.

Mine sure likes the Leverevolution ammo. I posted this pic once before, but this is 3 shots at 100yds...awesome!

Nice!! Want to PM me load details:D?

I wish I could, but it is factory ammo :p
Just can't get reloads to match it for accuracy so far. It will be my "hunting" rifle when the season rolls around. It is the 444P model (Outfitter) and is so light and handy. I have a low powered Leupold variable on it.

I'd never try to stop a guy from buying a rifle. I just find personally when I get too many, I dont shoot any of them as well as when I have 2 or 3 main guns which I shoot more often.

Good point, and for the most part, I agree. To a point my three primary big game rifles are actually five firearms soon to be six, but in three groups. The ones within the group, for all intents and purpose are basically the same rifle.

Group 1
- 7x61 S&H-----------Schultz & Larsen
- 308 NM-------------Schultz & Larsen
- 358 NM-------------Schultz & Larsen

Group 2
- 45-70-------------Marlin
- 444---------------Marlin

Group 3 (Odd Man out)
- 348 WCF-----------Winchester

;)

Mine is a 444S and I use a 1x4 Leupold on both the 444 and 45-70 GS with Weaver pivot mounts for quick access to the open sights, if & when needed.

I try to keep my rifles at 5 or less. Sure I'd like to have a 100, but after 5 you have overlap and $$ tied up for nothing. (IMO:))

Right now I have 4 calibers, and I can't think of anything that I'll ever hunt anywhere that can't be killed with one of them...

Rem .22-250
Sako .308win
Rem .338WM
NEF .50cal

I wouldn't mind having a 6.5 or a .25 to fill the 5th slot...

This is my list of the cals. that have killed the most big game in Canada over the years, not my choices...1. .303 Br.
2. 30/30 Win.
3. 270 Win.
4. 30/06
5. .308 Win.
6. 44/40
7. 243 Win.
8.300 Win. Mag.
9. 38/55
10. 45/70
