I ran off a couple aluminum bolt knobs at work today, so simple to make the boss doesn't believe me that people pay $50 for them.

I pulled the design out of my ass by looking at what was on the market, they are about 1 inch around by 1.5" long. Are bolt knobs something that are hard to come by? Should I even bother making more?

Now the technical question, what are most guy threading their bolt handles to? The couple I made today are tapped to 5/16-24NF.

There are more ugly ones out there than good looking ones..

it is a bonus if you can anodize them in different colours...

Personally, I think it mostly for looks... but it DOES help to cycle the bolt more rapidly/easily when in stressed situations, and it's also easier to get a hold of when wearing gloves/cold winter gloves.

I hate to admit it...I mean really really hate to even say it...but Dlask Winter Bolt handles are the nicest ones I have seen or used....gotta go take a bath now...
eta: stock 700 is my preferred bolt handle...

Very true.
Good thing this isn't one of them.

That's pretty much what mine look like, but the end is more round and the flat section is smaller in diameter.

So no one can actually answer the questions?

This is a serious question.

How does an oversized nob help your own personal shooting?

World class trigger pullers like the USMC and Big Army Snipers seem to get by with factory bolt handles...but 500lb molle clad civvie target shooters always seem to know better...:nest: Don't get me started on the "Sako" extractor craze...

Lol. If you can't shoot 'em muddy and cold, you can't shoot 'em!

Armedsask, if you are going to make them, please don't just clone all those out there. Make a ball like those on AWs, or TRGs for example.

The 3 bolt knobs out there that I personally like are:

Badger
KMW
Stiller

A drawing with exact dimensions is available from the Badger website.
Finally! Took two pages for some one to give me some help? Looks like my knob is already tapped the right size, and the right depth.

I showed my knob to a few ladies the other night, they loved it.
