Hello, I hate to ask noob questions, but I could not find a answer I am looking for by the search function. I noticed that recently Frontier arms, Lever arms, and Marstar all got SKS in stock. Their prices differ quite a bit, and those SKS origin from different contries.

Here are the SKS available:

Marstar Canada: N-SKS Norinco 'Type 56' $139
Frontier Firearms: Russian Surplus SKS $239
Lever Arms: Simonov Russian SKS $199

I am considering to get a SKS for casual plinking/collection. Which one would you recommend? And what are the pros and cons for each kind of SKS?

Thanks in advance!

The SKS's from Frontier and Lever are the same, both are from Russia. Lever is an importer and chances are Frontiers are from Lever. The Marstar ones are Norinco clones made in china, and chances are they are sold out. I gt mine from Frontier and I have no regrets. They are a little more then the Lever ones, but Frontier hand picks the ones they sell and if you ask them to pick a nice one out for you, they will. while I have read mixed results, mostly bad about Lever, I have read nothing but good things about Frontier.

At lever you can go into the shop and look through the case to see which one you want. If you order one online you get what they send you. They might not send out the really beat up ones though. *shrug*

Got a sks from Lever and no problems with them what so ever. Now I personaly have not had a bad experience with Lever but other may have. The nice thing about Lever is you can choose your sks. :shotgun:

The $139 Norinco doesn't exist. Lol. The other 2 are the same. There are tons of info in the Red rifles section. Just buy one, get a crate of ammo and shoot, shoot, shoot!! And make sure you clean it really well. There are threads on that too. Don't start thinking about the issued/unissued thing or you will end up like the rest of us with guns we will never shoot. Lol.

Marstar: Doesn't exist (apparently)

Frontier: Mail order, but if you specify what you want (stock, bolt color, ballistic bayonet, etc) you will probably get it.

Lever: Walk in, pick out your SKS like you're selecting a puppy. Try not to trip over the $180/crate 7.62 surplus ammo on your way to the cash register (hard on the shins)

I bought mine online from Lever and picked it up, when I looked at theirs they had loads of nice ones on the racks just had to look for them.

The one they picked out for me was even better than any I seen there I was very happy with it. Also they have a deal on right now for $350 for the gun and case of ammo.

got one from lever... still have to clean that CLP feeling like oil out of it.
hope to shoot it on sunday.

so far i like it. chrome barrel, polished bolt and bayo.

Is Lever still photo coping PALs?

If so then I'll pass thanx.
I'll buy from another dealer.

If I lived up there, Lever would likely receive a lot of my business. That SKS and ammo combo price is amazing!! :)

Thanx for the info. Since I travel to Vancouver regularly, guess I will pick up one SKS at Lever Arms next time. There is one thing bothers me though, parking in that area is such a pain in the ass. Also, how come there are so many off-duty cops shopping in there? It just seems odd to me...

There are parking stalls behind the shop for Lever's customers. No meters. Take your time picking out your toy.
