Can anyone tell me what is out there for new 22's that still shoot 22 short, long, long rifle. I see browning has a lever but 550.00$ is a little steep I'm looking for something around or under 400. Seems like there's not many options. Any help is appreciated.

I won't ask the question of why you'd want a new rifle to shoot shorts from...;)....I'll just list the current production Remington 552 Speedmaster (semi-automatic) and the Remington 572 Fieldmaster (pump-action) and be on my merry way....:)

CB cap, 22 short, long, long rifle, they all have the same diameter case and same diameter bullet so a gun designed for the .22 LR can also fire the smaller rounds. They may not feed smoothly though. And a gun specifically designed for the 22 short should not be used to fire the longer rounds.

Look for a tube magazine fed bolt or lever gun and you will have no problem with shorts. Just make sure to give the chamber a good cleaning before you switch from shorts to LR and you'll be fine.

NOT TRUE. Many Lever Action .22 LR guns will NOT cycle .22 Longs or .22 Shorts. My Ithaca 72 Saddle Gun or the Henry H001 are not designed to and are built NEARLY Identical the Ithaca Lifter doesn't go high enough to feed either from the magazine as they all get the chamber lip smack dab in the middle of the bullet much to my misery as it's darn accurate with the Longs at 40 yards.

That's odd, the manuals that came with my Henrys all say that they are designed to shoot longs and shorts... I haven't tried it, but what you say makes sense, I think I'll have to give it a try...

I had a browning BL22, and it cycled shorts, longs or LR effortlessly and flawlessly. I bought it in mint condition (50 rounds fired) for 400. I sold it after 5 years and thousands of rounds for 400 dollars. (to fund the purchase of my 1965 Marlin .444 cal lever action......I had to!!) anyhow, it was an excellent shooter.
My current favorite is one I just bought recently, and let me tell you, My 1956ish Mossberg 146Ba long tube is great. It holds 29 shorts in mine. Thats a lot of time before reloading again. It is the most accurate rimfire I have ever owned and I got it in great condition for 175 I think. Great deals can be had on great condition used guns. You'll probably get more for your money going that route. I know I have.

I know my Ithaca 72 is LR-only :yingyang: (even CB Longs are a no-go :(), but I was under the strong impression that the Henry was S/L/LR.

The Marlin 39A is supposed to work with .22 S/L/LR. Any bolt gun should work fine with Shorts, but some repeaters may have to be single loaded.

My Goldenboy(H004) has no problem with LR or Short.

.22 Long has the same case as .22 LR, but uses the same bullets as .22 Short. Some older .22 Long guns have too slow a rifling twist for heavier .22 LR bullets.

Thanks for the info, Yes I realize all about 22's as I have had many and still a few semi's(I'm a lefty) and nowaday they are all LR's. I will for sure be going to check out the Henry Lever. They seem like a great deal for the price. Thanks:rockOn:

I'm a lefty shooter also. :)

The Henry's action is very smooth, and all of the rifles I've seen have had high quality walnut stocks also...can't beat it at the price it sells for. Good luck.
