I need help picking out my first target scope, it's going on my heavy barreled .223 I plan on shooting it to 600y.I want to use it for F class and coyote.I was looking at the 6-24x50 4200 tac./6-18x40AO VXII any other/better options at that price.Oh yea I looked in a 10x and want more magn. at least 14x.

I'd like to stay under 800$ and wouldn't mind going used.
I curently have a 4200 on my hunting rifle and I love it specialy in low light.
But I figured low light quality isn't a plus on a target rig....

There's also the 5-15 Bushnell tactical. Don't let the 3200 moniker fool you into thinking it has poor optics. They are around $450 new and have excellent optics and are on par with the 4200. In my eyes, its sharper than the 4200 6-24x tactical. Has about the same minutes of elevation as the 30mm tube 4200 too in a 1" tube.

I've thought about the Falcon scopes, but to be honest the limited warranty on the Falcons has me preferring the Bushnell lifetime warranty. But, the Falcon is said to be a better scope optically.

Friend of mine had the 5-15 3200 I dont like his he had all sorts of issues
reticle turned cant rely on the windage maybe he just got a bad one.
Anyone tried the Vortex Viper...

I am sure you would be happy with the 4200 tactical. I cannot comment on the leopold scopes in that price range.

I have the 4200(T) 6x24x50, (on HB .223) the 3200(T) 5x15x50 (on an AR) and the Falcon 4.5x18x56 (an orphan scope now currently on a rimfire). To my eyes the 4200 is the best in all categories ( brightness, clarity, magnification etc ) the 3200 is brighter than the Falcon but has less magnification. Both the 3200 and 4200 have less internal adjustment than the Falcon but this is a problem easily overcome by use of a rail with built in MOA. Also the crosshairs are a bit thicker than ideal but this is a subjective observation.

I've often thought that the Falcon is the best dollar value out there amongst entry level target/tactical scopes and if budget is a big consideration it might well be the one to go with but you might find the 18 magnification just a bit weak if you want to reach out to the 600 yard point. If it was my choice, and for the application you suggest, I'd go to the 4200.

Yes I have a Vortex Viper Target Scope and love it! I have got several other CGN'rs onto the Vortex as well and they seem very pleased with them as well. You can't go wrong with the optical quality of these scopes, and they are in the $600-$700 range which makes them very attractive if you are on a budget. Have a look at...www.vortexcanada.net. Good Luck!

That's the one thing that got me getting out of the store the other day without buying the 3200 5-15, the reticle is way too thick, the 4200 6-24 is a bit better, but not much.

Well, that is strange as the 5-15 is Mil-spec at 15x and the 6-24 is Mil-spec at 12x. So they can't be exact same Mil-dot.

As I have said in other posts when poeple brought this up I have 2 3200tacticals and one 4200 tactical and did a side but side comparison at the same power setting. There is no difference between the two mildot reticles. There is a difference in the way they look as one is a 50mm and the other is a 40mm objective. My comparison was looking at a power line that was the exact same thickness as the lines on the reticle.

So I am not sure what you are going by??? The spec sheet?;)

No, I looked thru both of them side by side.

Did you ever wonder why there's a digit in red on each scope? 5-15 is the 15 number, 6-24 is the 12 number. So mil spacing is exact at these setting, if the reticle would be exactly the same on both scope, mil-spec would be at same magification.

Anyway, What I said to mr Attention is, I looked thru both but found the reticle lines to be too thick for my taste on a Target scope,
if I said it was a bit better on the 6-24 it's because the 6-24 have a greater magnification, and since you can see the target bigger in it, the thick crosshair don't bother as much.
Didn't want to hijack the thread, so I'm outa here

........or the new Falcon Menace 5.5-25x50FFP which is almost $200 cheaper that the 4200. :)

We will have more in stock by the end of the week or early next week.

My fav. target scopes (for the money) are the Weaver T-36 and the Bushnell 6500 series, for hunting I would favor the 6500 as it is a variable, and the best Bushnell ever IMHO.
