Are you looking for outfitters in the general area to book a hunt with, or are you looking for options to avoid an outfitter?

For an outfitter, you'll be around $25,000-35,000 for a good hunt. Some cheaper guys out there but not a pile of them, also a few discounts can be had if guys havent filled up permits, but sheep tags usually are booked in AB well in advance.

For a non-resident hunter, you'd need to start applying to build priority for Trophy Sheep for a non-resident. It will take you 12++ years to draw this tag as only 2 tags are drawn each year. Then you need a hunter host to take you out.

Hope thats what you were lookin for?

Is that it...and here I thought it was going to be difficult. :p

Hmm, apply for one of 2 tags for 15 years or more, or sell your house to pay an outfitter...What to do...?

You could re-mortgage your house and have it payed off before you ever drew one of those trophy tags...:p

I like your thinking. :)

At the current interest rates...it's not really a big deal. Hmmm. ;)

I can't help you with the sheep hunting question, but here are a few shots of Pickle Jar Lakes that might bring some memories back for you Dad. It's beautiful up there!

Very nice pictures, I've been there a couple of times sheep hunting. Likely one of the easiest hike you'll ever go on in search of sheep.

There is no non resident sheep hunting permitted south of WMU410....basicallly #1 Highway so you couldn't hunt the old haunts. As pointed out, there are two non-resident draw tags available but since Alberta is on a priority system, there are several hundred people ahead of you. Chances of drawing a tag in the next 30 or 40 years is pretty slim. The only other route is to go outfitted and shell out $17k + or move back to Alberta.

Might be cheaper to take a leave from work, long enough to become a resident of AB

If you're going to take unpaid leave, you might as well take out a loan...

Better yet, put $80/week in a hunting account for 5 years, then go huntin'...

Considering resident success on sheep in about 4%-6%, it might be cheaper to hire an outfitter...lol

Guessing their success rates are 5 to 10 times that.

thanks guys for yr help,, and SCOTT N thanks for the pics ill have to show them to the old man and see if he remebers ahah .. Yah i wasnt really looking at the outfitters thing cuz of the money and knew the HOST LAW .. but i was hoping that special draw wasnt the only way ..... DAMN .... B.C maybe ahaha
