SKS Firing out of battery

StoneHorse: Does the spring go on the front section or rear section firing pin? I'm assuming between the retaining pin and the bolt face. Next time you have it apart, you mind snapping a pic of it for me?

Many thanks.
I am away on holidays with spotty internet access. The spring slides on the front of the firing pin. Hold firing pin against the spring pressure until you re-install the retaining pin.

How could you tell that my bolt had fully dropped down into the locking recess when it fired the second time on its own? I couldn't tell and I was there.

You could tell by comparing the cartridge cases. Out of battery means simple blowback on the SKS. Hard on the casing. If you thought the bolt wasn't locking on an SKS you would be optimistic to load another round.

A single shot action can fire out of battery, without doubling. SMGs like the Sten are never in battery(advanced primer ignition), but don't have to double. The 2 things are different.

I did double on a Sterling L2A3 once (also advanced primer ignition), with the change lever on "R", maybe a high primer or worn sear honestly Range Officer Sir.

If the firing pin was the problem you could fire without your finger on the trigger.
