Glock 17 accuracy help

The Glock has a different trigger on it. Try the $.25 trigger job on it. Also found that adding the 3lb connector on it and really focus on the trigger reset helps alot.`Release the trigger pressure only enough to reset and fire the next shot from there. Also ensure that your body positioning is naturally aiming the pistol to the centre of the target test this by bringing the pistol into firing postion with your eyes closed open them and see where the pistol is naturally pointing and adjust your positioning until you can bring it up to a naturally pointing position and it becomes instinctual. Once you accomplish this it will feel natural and you can then focus on the trigger control front sight etc.

I have a 5lb trigger on my G17 if that changes anything???

Went to the range today and i'm even worse now on the G17 than ever before. Was trying some of the tips like the crush grip and focusing on the front site etc from the article. I'm probably over compensating because I just couldn't find the bullseye at 10m and my groups are now over 8 inches :(

I like the G17 a lot but i'm going to have to do a ton of work to figure out why i'm so inaccurate with it vs the CZ.

I totally agree with this, once people said they have problem with the Glock and Glock guys will jump in and said operator error. I have both G17 and CZ 75B. Took me a while to deal with the trigger while the CZ don't have to. The G17 is a real good shooter after several range section to break in while the CZ shoot good at the first day. Sometime is the gun and not the shooter.

But if you re-read the OP's post he already stated the G17 was acquired used but didn't say how many rounds through it before he got it... so it still goes back to the shooter and getting use to a Glock trigger.

I just bought a Sig P226 and now have to get use to a Sig DA/SA trigger system.

I believe that the so call "break-in" a Glock or M&P9 is more for smoothing out the triggers rough egdes but won't change the trigger travel and reset. After 500 - 1000rds the shooter gets use to it and feels more natural in their hands and now say "damn this pistol is accurate... now". Just my opinion.

Just a little more background on the reason why i'm questioning the accuracy of my G17..

I did shoot it off sandbags with a slight but not really big change in group size..and the sights are tight. As I mentioned before, this is a used gun.. apparently it is an "ex-cop" gun.. the barrel and rifling is in excellent condition.. there is very little wear on the overall finish of the gun.

Although this is my first pistol, I have shot other types of handguns over the last year without any accuracy problems and some of them up to 50 yds..

these include Colt 1911, Springfield XD, Sig P226, Colt Python 357, Glock 27 (compact), Glock 22, a 9mm CZ and even a norinco 1911..

I do find the trigger to be very "creepy".

I am going to shoot it again tomorrow and take some notes..

BTW, what is a $.25 trigger job?

Did you buy that G17 from that place on Riviera and Woodbine? I ask because most of the used Glocks they sell from there are used LE sidearms.

As for the 0.25 cent trigger job... visit a glock forum and do a search for "$0.25 trigger job"

You may also want to visit glockfaq dot com

Not doubting your pistol benchrest technique but google that info as well. Just trying to eliminate any benchrest inconsistancies.

OK ,

Thanks to you guys, I think i got it figured out.. I went to the range today and was shooting "minute of 8 1/2 X 11 paper" at 25 yds with my glock..

The first couple of times I went out, I didn't realize that the glock had a 2 stage trigger... I just thought it was a really long double action pull.. I was squeezing the trigger slowly from the start to the end without taking up the slack on the first stage.. this made for a really long pull that was affecting my accuracy..

I'm was much happier with my shooting today, aiming at a 3 inch circle on an 8 1/2X11" piece of paper.. out of 40 shots on 2 targets, 33 hit paper and 5 were in the 3 inch circle.

You guys called it with the trigger control.. I'm going to keep practicing now until i get "minute of large tim horton cup"

Good to hear, That's the exact same problem I had with my M&P9.
Getting better with each shooting session.

I am really glad I read this forum. I was really embaresed by my grouping at 25meters but after reading that I should be starting out closer with the Glock22 I am actually improving. My range is always empty when I go so you guys are my complete source of info. My thanks to you all also.
