Best bullet weights for hunting in 7mm-08?

In my remington 788 in 7mm08 with a 18 1/2 brl I use mostly 154g hornady with a load of RL19 49gr for an ave speed of 2650. I have tried 140g and used nosler baltip with a RL19 49gr(not a typeo) for ave speed of 2750. Both bullets have worked great on deer and for moose I would try the 150g partitions or Barnes x and use them for everthing once yhou have a good load.

If you're not wanting to get an expanded bullet for your collection ;), the 160 Accubond works great in the 7mm-08. Was very accurate in my Stevens, shoots quite flat to over 300 yd, and always expands and penetrates very deep. It will be the bullet I use in my new marlin XS7.

My first, and favourite hunting rifle was a M70 Classic Featherweight in 7mm08. I shot 2 eating sizd moose w/ hornady 162 btsp's. they both went down straight away w/ shoulder shots inside 100yrds. Next was 2 forkie whitetails between 100 and 200 yrds w/ 139 hornadys. They both died, but blood trail on a perfect quartering away heart shot was non existant, and I almost didn't find that one. Lastly, I tried 120 TSX. Last year's buck got it right on the point of the shoulder as he quartered toward at 150 yrds. He went about 20yrds. Obviously this is not an exhaustive study, but I really like that I can crank the 120 tsx up to 3150 fps, accuracy is good, recoil is nil, and I absolultly next have to wonder if the bullet is going to nuke.
 
I had a Rem 700 in 7-08 that shot cloverleafs with both 140 and 160 grain bullets.

I personally think it's at it's best with the 140's.
 
140 is a good balance in a small case like the 7mm-08. The 140 Swift A-Frame has accounted for quite a variety of African game, according to Craig Boddington. His daughter uses it in the 7mm-08 and he describes it as performing better than the numbers would suggest. I think she's even killed Eland with it which makes be believe that it's plenty capable.

What are you using for charcoal behind it? I was going to load up some 160 Partitions for my 7mm-08 to take along moose hunting in case I or someone else needed a backup gun. I normally stick to 140's for deer and coyote but thought 160's might be better for moose as long as they pattern OK and the truth of the matter is most shots in the bush are off hand so an inch on the range is nothing when we are shooting off hand.

No 7-08, but my 7x57 "Classic" shoots the 140 Accubond into some pretty impressive groups, using RL 17.
Velocity is also impressive at just over 2900 fps.
I would hunt any non-dangerous North American game with this load.

Re19 and H414 will both get you beyond 2600 fps out of a 22" barrel, with good accuracy and case life.

AA4350 will put you a tad over 2700, however it is not quite as accurate.
