1911 mags fit too tightly in the frame how to fix?

Before I do any useless grinding and peening, Figured I'd ask here first.

I have these 2 chip mccormick powermags that fit tightly into the frame and one of them simply wont drop when I hit the mag release and the other will drop but only if gun is held straight (no tilt on either side)

No visual wear anywhere except around the little square hole (don't know how it's called)

What zone is most likely the problem? How am I going to fix that?

Your grip screws may be too long, or tightened to the point they protrude enough inside the magwell and impede magazine function.

Did you recently replace the your grip panels? :)
 
Strip the frame bare, and try the mags. Add the trigger alone, and try the mags. Add the mag catch, and try. Add the fire control system, and try. Add the slide without the slide stop, and try. Add the slide stop, and try.

At some point, you'll find the cause.
 
Standard answer to mag issues of that sort was to strip them down, fit the appropriate mandrel inside, and beat the swells or bulges back into line with a nylon hammer.

Only works really well if you have access to a proper mandrel, though.

If you cannot determine the rub points, your best bet would be to buy some mags that fit correctly...

If you can ID the rub points, you got'r aced.

cheaps maybe, just give me a good source for 1911 10 rounders though

as for canuck223, as I just said, othermags fit perfectly, are ejected when mag release is pressed, its really a problem with the mags emselves
 
there's been more than a few instances where i've had to "wear in" a mag- esp in the ones from south america-wearing in means putting them in and withdrawing- at least a couple of hundred times- the ones that don't eject properly are confined to my "b" belt
 
Get some 400 grit emery cloth , a really flat surface, and run both sides of the mag over the emery cloth. You will soon see if the mag is wrapped or has any high spots!

this product won't ship outside of the US (from brownells and others)
neither will the wilson

hard for me to go with trippresearch, a website that hasnt been updated since 2007.

I have contacted some dealers about the wilson combat 10 rounder here. Price is around 60+tax+shipping (too much) delivery time is around 8 weeks (bit too much too)
 
An old school thing to try;

Light a candle and smoke the mag - hold the mag over the candle until its surface gets covered by the soot (don't heat the mag)

Then insert the mag and release it. Look for the wear marks in the soot. Polish, pound, etc - these spots down.

Try mag - if still jamming, repeat.
 
What Freedom Ventures said. I have a couple of Chip Mccormick 10 round mags that kept binidng where all others didn't. was the feed lips dragging in my case. took several times as the damn feed lips kept bouncing back.

not sure if the Mccormick 10 rounders won't put you into Open class now sice the 170 mm max length rule exemption for Canada is ( or will soon be?) gone.
 
Have you measured 'em? It's not the frame when your other mags work fine.

Yes measured every single possible angle, same lenght on all spots (±0,005'')
So in all likelyhood, lips are the problem, will try the candle trick tonight.
I bought em used from someone else, maybe he gave em a beating IDK, I don't think McCormick would honour garantee as I'm 2nd owner and have no clue what previous owner has been through
 
Something else I though of .... I think this could be your problem as I now remember why I parted with my 8 rounders many years ago.

If this is happening on an empty mag, could the mag follower be skipping over the slide stop notch and retaining the mag from falling free?

Could be that your slide stop is not exactly in love with Chip McCormick followers. Try replacing just the follower for one from a mag you know works.
