some may remember my last bubba conversion project where I spliced together and reworked a No4 sporter as a tanker :D

well I have another project simmering in my mind that involves a No1 that has been shortened allready and drilled and tapped.

thinking of another spliced stock project, and thanks to Lou I have a good selection of wood :) to match up.

But I think I would like to try a wire butstock with the standard pistol grip, not I'm not certain how its going to work, going to need to shorten the stock bolt and recontour one of my many spare bubba stocks. The butt will need to be retractable, I'm thinking slider not folder, and some simple locking device. I will also need to fabricate some sort of nose cap, like the RIC or LEC.

So far I have picked out the wood, did some cutting and have started to glue the forestock together. Cleaned up the crown and silver soldered the front site on as well as move the rear sight back about 1 1/2"

I have been inspired to make a tanker. Just got an old No4 action with a counter bored buldged barrel. Stock set that is warped. Trying to use old parts that are beyone reuse or scrap to any original.
 
So where am I with this

First it was a 1915 BSA.Co. No1 MkIII that had no front sight and was wearing a 1918 barrel so I suspect that was a FTR, and it was tapped for a scope mount (weaver T01)

So here it is in its new spliced stock, the remains of the other stock can be seen in this photo

I moved the rear sight back a bit, truing to keep a longer sight radius and a ballanced look to the rifle.

Had to open up the stock a bit to fit the new rear sight position, and cut some space to splice in a block to help stiffen the joint. Going to be a bit of bedding compound to glue it all together and fill in the holes.

Barrel is a bit shorter and a front sight soldered on with a low temp silver solder

Going to need to make some sort of nose cap, perhaps like the LEC calvary carbine, take a bit of machineing and welding.

So thats where I am right now, going to need to make some upper handguards as well.

So after I get this one done I have allready found my next project, but what to do with this one.

Ay Caramba Burnt45, you sure get points for originality! :D

Woodchopper, I can't wait to see the next steps and, of course, the finish product - I have no doubt, after seeing your previous work, that this is going to be really great.

Sweet jesus no.....That hurts to look at! What did it look like before? Please tell me it was already cut down and imposible to re-militarize (or unsporterize, whichever you prefer).
 
Don't worry fella's, she was beyond saving,.... I mean, what else was I gonna do, the mag # didn't match the rest of the gun, so I butchered the gun to save the mag!!;)

Actually, it's the worst pitted barrel and receiver I've ever seen, but it gave me some donor wood so Lou could refurb my sporter.

The pic is a 5 minute mock-up... but how 'bout that suppressor?!!
 
no need to sand the wood, clean it and then get some BLO (Boiled linseed oil) and put on a few light coats let dry and then a few more light coats.

Oh I guess I need to update this thread again. :redface:

Last night I finished up reinforcing the splice and started on the top rear handguard.

I could make a crib board out of it for the hunt camp :D

I'll have to take it out to shoot but it's a matching post war FTR with a 'new' barrel 5 groove. Should shoot well but there is the problem if it was a sewer bore then I have a project brewing in my mind (6.5x45R carbine :) )

but then perhaps I might have a use for a short stiff barrel on a No1 enfield.

I think that I would also like to work on an enfield carbine in 44mag pistol caliber 18.5" barrel full wood :D
