I'm looking to buy a set of aluminum grips for my SP01 Shadow.

I've emailed Guns & Things (Blackie, AB) but have received no response.

Before I go to the CZ Custom shop, I thought that I would ask the Gunnutz:

1) Are there any other Canadian dealers that sell aluminum grips?
2) Does anyone have a phone number/contact at Guns&things? Are they still around? What's up?

Any help would be appreciated.

I just bought a drop free mag kit for my CZ 75 and the kadet kit from guns and things, service was fast. Once I heard nothing and wrote again and got a response right back, just email them again with what you want.

I'm not knocking them... In fact I've got an order in with them right now.

I just need a rapid weight reduction solution and I don't want things to get held up a customs.

I've got a set of Marschall maple grips on order from Hungary, but I won't see those for at least another month. I want to shoot my Shadow in an upcoming IDPA match and my gun is too heavy for SSP.

Ah, IDPA. Complicates things when you actually HAVE to have the grips.
Sorry, there were a couple at the local gun store about 6 months ago, but they're gone and they said they only had them as a trial version anyways. Hard to find around here.

Why not shoot it in ESP?

Why not shoot it in ESP?

I hate to answer a question with a question...

I thought, due to the full-length dust cover on the SP01, that it had to comply with SSP criteria before you could shoot it in ESP.

"Pistols approved for SSP may also be used in ESP and CDP
depending upon caliber, even if the pistol in question has a fulllength
dust cover. However, should the pistol in question have a
modification that removes it from SSP, it must meet all other
division criteria for ESP or CDP, again depending upon caliber."

So: Can I shoot ESP if it doesn't make SSP weight?

No you can't.

Your interpretation is right.

However if you are buying Al grips to try to make weight you are wasting your money...won't work.

Respring to lighter hammer and recoil spring, take the mag break out and wait for your Marschall grips. Unless you are shooting in a Sanctioned match you won't have any trouble over weight anyhow.

So if one wants an all-round IPSC Production/IDPA CZ, what's the best model to get?

If you are willing to spend the time to make it work...the Shadow. The problem with the Shadow is the mods you do to make IDPA weight must be undone to shoot IPSC Production. Not a biggie either way in club matches but if shooting Qualifiers or IDPA sanctioned matches it can be a bit of a bother switching back and forth.

If not...CZ85 Combat. Ready to go as is, makes weight and is a very competitive gun in either discipline. Only mod required is to replace the mainspring - with a CZ factory - with a lighter one to improve the first double action shot.
