I'm at an impass guys

It's understandable. I went through a stage recently where I couldn't have cared less whether or not I saw or used any firearm. Many of my buddies have been making their last trip to the great and happy hunting/shooting ground over the past couple of years. I'm missing the camaraderie that goes with the hobby.
I've been invited along with a few others, but it just isn't the same thing as 30+ year friends. They're great guys, but something is missing.

Richard, I know that you recently became a father. Your life has taken a dramatic change. Many ways for the better of course but, definitely with a totally different bent. Like it or not a new arrival is a huge upheaval in any home and your priorities have a whole new meaning.

Change is what usually causes such deviations in interest. As long as you keep plugging at it though and if you let a few people into your life or rejoin some of the others, it will come back. This won't be the first time nor will it be the last for this type of change in your lifestyle/interests.

In my case, my habit for reading and gleaning information as well as a few gun shows and meeting a few old friends there has peaked my interest again.

Remember, the only constant in life is change. It all depends on our ability to live/adapt/improvise that will reward us with a positive outcome. You have a little recruit coming along that needs a mentor. You would be a prime candidate for that position. What better way to build character than to involve him/her in all aspects of the morals and ideals that go hand in hand with shooting sports?

Meeting H4831 at the recent Vernon show brought things back into perspective, when he mentioned that he was a long time friend of eagleye. He was following the golden rule "keep in touch with old friends and don't be shy about making new ones".

I know what your saying, I was and am still big into winchesters but lately have been selling them and buying handguns and AR's. I think its because I shoot them more. Don't get me wrong though, I still have some never sell winchesters.

Actually I do have one.
Forgot that I had it!

Thanks for your reply.
I did actually become a Dad on September 4th 2008. Its been w hirl wind ever since. Time is at a premium for me and although my gun collection hasn't reduced it has changed. I've aquired guns that youngsters need to start on. I'd love to find a small single shot in a handgun calibre. A Martini cadet in .357 mag would be the ultimate.

By the way how were you aware of my relatively recent parentage?
Word gets around?

Oh and my name is Richard (not Steve)

Good for you Riflechair...(the new Dad part)
I cannot believe, that you let that nice Danish VAR barrelled M1 Garand, leave your house though!

Cheers!

Sorry Richard, I'm terrible with names. We were chatting through PMs about Pakistani No4 MkII rifles and you were wondering about it over heating and I mentioned mine had a .310 bore. You mentioned you were soon going to be blessed with a new member to your family. Congratulations by the way, even if I am nearly a year late.

Recently, I acquired two Cooeys (a 60 and a 600). Wonder who's shooting with those. The boys are now old enough to join me at the range. Of course nobody is forcing them, if any of them doesn't want to and prefers something else no problem. But I won't complain if they like the range too :)

When the two were babies, I never thought I'd get a single spare minute for the rest of my life. My other passion - motorcycling - even got parked for 4 years!!!!

Now things are simpler, there's more elbow-room in the schedule and rifles (and bike) are seeing active duty again.

I guess I can understand why the type of preferred rifle can change; as long as the passion is still there alive and well!

Lou
