I have an LMT 11.5 piston upper on its way and am looking to put a quad rail on to replace the existing fatty's.

Anyone have experience or information as to whether a Daniel Defence Omega 7.0 rail will fit over the LMT piston assembly? Any other good options?

And on a completely separate note if someone is hanging on to an ACE SOCOM butt stock feel free to PM me.

Your in luck cuz the top notch is just enough clearance for the piston to move back and forth with out touching. Daniel Defense Omega rail system is the only one I know that is compatible with the piston systems. Although I am probably wrong as there are probably more company's out there now days trying to get on the piston system. Just make sure to keep an eye on your spring tube for uneven wear AND DON'T FROGET TO POST SOME PIC'S YOU LUCKY DOG!

Interesting... LMT doesn't make an 11.5" piston upper

LMT's Piston system is ONLY made for their MRP uppers and is not compatible with standard uppers. It comes in a 16" and 12.5" barrel length and these are factory built systems that ONLY work on the LMT MRP uppers (the barrels are NOT compatible with standard uppers).

If you have an 11.5" LMT then it's not a factory item. The standard uppers that LMT produces come in 10.5", 14.5", 16", 18" lengths and they do not offer a piston system or upgrade for those uppers.

We have built piston conversions on the 10.5" LMT standard uppers but those conversions used the PWS Gas Piston kits... they run like a clock and they are compatible with a variety of FF Quad Rails... but it would not be accurate to call them "LMT Gas Piston Uppers"... LMT has nothing to do with the gas piston conversion for those uppers.

Again... not sure what it is you've got "coming" but it doesn't sound like it's an LMT gas piston so knowing what quad rail is going to fit it really requires knowing what gas piston system is on it.

Check the LMT website... you won't find any 11.5" barrel lengths and you wont' find any gas piston uppers or rifles that aren't MRP's (meaning they don't have anything in gas piston that comes with fatty handguards as all MRP are one piece monolithic rail platforms to begin with).

Thanx Questar for the info. I thought that 11.5" upper sounded weird but didn't know for sure. Also does the 16" piston upper compatible with the commercial spring tube? Or would you need a mil spec spring tube? I am asking this cuz I was contemplating getting one. But then I have heard that when you get an upper that has a gas piston system (opposed to the dedicated gas piston rifle) that some times the commercial spring tubes get wear on the inside due to the bolt tilt. Or is this just myth?

To begin with, each manufacturer uses a different design on their gas piston systems so talking in generalities is not really accurate. For example, the PWS gas piston conversion kits uses a carrier that has the rod permanently attached and the rod rides inside a tube that's attached to the gas block... because the rod is "contained" it is impossible for the carrier to "tilt".

The CMMG system is different but we have not seen any signs of issues with the extension tubes (we've used both mil-spec and commercial diameter tubes) and we also use standard buffers with the CMMG gas piston units.

The LMT MRP Gas Piston systems that we've run all had LMT lowers so they all had mil-spec tubes. One constant that we did see was that the LMT gas pistons seemed to need to have the H2 (piston weight) buffer not just a standard or even a "H" buffer.

The point is that every system is different... but I've not heard of any that would not run with a commercial extension tube.

If you're looking for Mil-Spec Extension tubes we've got a variety of them in stock now... we have our own... we also have LMT and CMMG mil-spec diameter tubes that just arrived and are being put on the website today.

Actually a bunch of new stuff that should be on the site later today :)

Turns out you're correct, which would make sense as you're the lads that are slapping this one together, must have had something else on my mind. Turns out its CMMG.

So that said Mark, will the DD Omega 7.0 fit on the CMMG 11.5" piston upper?

No... CMMG's Gas Piston/Block and the rod that comes out sits a bit higher than some others. The only Quad Rail we've seen that works is the one that's sold by CMMG (listed on our site when you ordered the upper it was an option you could have selected). I believe the Quad Rail is made by Yankee Hill for CMMG and has CMMG's name on it. If you go to our website there's a picture of the 11.5" Upper that shows it with the optional quad rail installed.

Your unit has not shipped yet so if you want the quad rail you need to email us over the weekend and we'll make a change to your order... but you need to do this before Monday as it's scheduled to ship at that time.

Sounds like the PWS is the best system and it does work with the DD Omega rail.

PWS dosen't list the conversion kit anymore?? or the DNTC muzzle doo-dads....

PWS is a $700 kit...installation extra?? Hard to justify that.

A CMMG Rifle is $1500 and $1800 for a Piston Rifle....that sounds like a deal.

Price is important but not the most important thing. The PWS kit is a way better design (less small dinky parts and better anti-carrier tilt design) and I believe it includes the install for that price.
