Hey, first post here. Looking to upgrade my 20mm red dot on my sks. Just wondering what the community thinks about the reflex styles and the 30mm tubular style. I am just looking for something bigger, with a better view.
Later, Ryan.

I hear what your saying stevo. But wouldnt a bigger tube or none at all( in the case of a reflex) make the desire to close one eye less...desirable?

That's a training/practice issue. If you have a tendency to close an eye, you'll probably do it with any size tube.

You have to work at it to make it your default setting.

If you shoot right handed, then your master eye must be the right to leave both eyes open.

Don't know which is your master eye? With your right hand, point your right index finger at something. Leaving both eyes open. Open and shut each eye in turn. Your master eye will then become apparent.

P.S. Be sure that your right hand in unloaded in this test!;)

I find most reflex/red dot sights are not bright enough on a bright day if your range is set up so the sun is behind you miday. (like most) On top of that, accuracy is minute of pie plate or so at 100m or further. Fine in a combat situation, but takes away the fun at the range. If you use them, try to keep your irons opperational, best of both worlds that way. Idealy, co-witness!

I usually agree with that statement until I tried aimpoint's new red dot sight that has the night vision compatibility. WoW it's got a special coating on the front lens for intense sunlight and the flip up cover work great as sun shades too. Also I find that the "Night Vision Setting" aka the green dot works 10 times better in the sun light than the red dot. But that's just my 2 cents and yes I know that the aimpoint is almost the same as buying 5 sks's.

Therein lies the problem. Hopefully, a chinese slave labour camp will copy and offer in Canada. ;)

We are going out today to shoot so I will do some more practice with both eyes open Stevo.
Should be a fun day because I just got my 870 express and a 700 sps .223 in the mail friday cant wait to try them out.

They did and its ####. You can never go wrong spending hard earned quawn on good optics. :D

Aimpoint is the only way to go for red dots. If your on a tight budget and just plinking the Burris fastfire is alright too.
