May be moving out to Kenora ON from BC. Anyone know how the duck and deer hunting is in the area? I know the area is very nice and folks out there have no idea how much their waterfront property is worth, YET.

I am getting ready today for the little drive east to check out the area.

Kenora is usually associated with Moose and Bear hunting, there are deer but it is better at the south end of the lake area where there is less crown land. Kenora is a hunters dream compared with most of Ontario, good waterfowl hunting will be spotty and you should key in on finding water areas with wild rice. Most folks in NW Ont. that are serious about waterfowl go next door to Man. This info may not be current as It's been awhile since I hunted there, and some areas around the lake are like zoos, because of all the cottages/houses, but once you get away from all that, there's lots of wilderness.

NW Ontario is gods country for a guy that loves ruffed grouse as well!

Ben you probably have not been to Kenora for a few years. The white tail deer numbers have exploded in the past 10 years in lake of the woods it is just loaded with deer and wolves to eat them. The deer seem to be crossed with billy goats climbing canadian shield cliffs and such and swim from island to island across the lake and gone.

It does not seem like deer country but they seem to be thriving.

If you go out on the big lakes, be very respectful of them. Lake of the Woods is almost an inland sea and can turn ugly very quickly, especially if you are in a small boat.

It is wonderful hunting and fishing country, just be careful on the big lakes.

The west end of Lake of the Woods and Shoal Lake are good to excellent areas for waterfowl, I lived there for 7 years, and got a ton of birds. If you head out on the lakes don't push your luck, take a GPS and charts, and take enough boat.
Deer and bear hunting is also excellent, with a few world class whitetails to be found. If you head a little north the Moose hunting is very decent as well. Grouse can be plentiful, and you can find the occasional woodcock in the cuts. I never had a lot of luck with bunnies, but there are quite a few in certain areas also. If you prefer flat land waterfowl hunting, there are great opportunities in MB. I hunted 30-40 days a year when I was there, and it was always good.
