I know this thread has most likely been beat to death but when I search for SL-8 nothing comes up. So here goes.

Coming into a bit of money very soon and would like to get a new toy, something black, non-rest and in 223. Already have AR's in various configs.
Question: SL-8 - 4 or 5 config for $2200 put on some good optics and a bipod
or might make a G36 look alike.

Or a Swiss arms black or green non-rest langth - I have shot these and was only mildly impressed for the 3K price tag, leaves very little room for Optics$$$

Next Q, Scope the above rifles with???? Leopold Vari X? like to stay under 1K for the optics if possible.

If fellow CGNers can give me an opinion or 2 it would be appriciated- if your an internet warrior and own neither.... I can search google too. Looking for some shooters here to give me thier opinion.
Thanks.

What do you plan to do with it?

Plink? Varmints? Tactical rifle matches or ?

I have a classic green with Trijicon ACOX 4X T1A3F...

A little of all. Use my AR for 3-gun stuff so mostly varmints and a changeup from the AR in a 3 gun. What kind of groups from the classic green?

Good stuff :)

I liked the SL8 but wanted a larger sized non restricted rifle for varmints / etc... My next purchase is a shortie style AR or maybe a Swiss Arms CQB since I have about 15 mags I could share - to use for tactical matches.

My Swiss Arms setup extremely accurate at short, medium and long range... (300m is the longest range around these parts)... The ACOG works well on them all. The classic green is a heavy gun compared to most AR setups and other black rifles... it is very solidly made. I am a big guy though so I don't find it heavy to handle in a match. When using friends small AR's or CQBs I am amazed at the weight difference though.

I think weight is something to consider for your choice.

I use standard American Eagle .223 and have always been able to put it where I need it in nice small gropings (1-2 inches when standing from 50 yards)... I am no Canadian Forces ninja though. Just a bolt action guy who has found black rifles and is loving it.

I found my Classic Green on the EE here with 6 magazines for a good price ($2800 for everything) with a nice case.

Here is a good quote about what Swiss Arms guarantees:

Swiss Arms rifles are guaranteed to shoot 24 shots into 7x11cm at 300m. That is 24 shots into 1.3 MOA.

My reloads get me .95 MOA/5 shots and that is using regular (non-match) bullets. (Have not gotten the time to start testing out match bullets).

The 35mm at 300m quoted earlier by the Swiss dealer using Swiss Match is 0.41 MOA.

That said - at some point in the future I will buy an SL8 too. Nice gun.

I'm not sure if you are open to other options, but the Robinson XCR is excellent. It LOOKS AR, but it isn't. Piston driven, with an adjustable gas setting. I can't compare it to the sl-8 or the swiss arms, but I like it. The customer service is second to none, and with the new trigger (which is on all the newer rifles) the major complaint about the platform is gone.

Having owned both, and even being a huge HK fan, I think the Swiss Arms wins hands down. Both are excellent rifles, but the Swiss Arms is more so. You should ask RichLPS. He puts a lot of rounds through both plaforms. He may have some good comparative insight.

I just got an SL8 about 2 weeks ago. You say you searched for SL-8 and found nothing? we have 3 threads going on including 2 in this section(one sticky) and one in the photo section. search SL8, not SL-8.

I love mine, no regrets, but FFS mine needs a trigger job I swear I almost pooped myself twice at the range today trying to pull the damn thing, almost lost it!

I have not owned both but have shot both, personally the SL-8 feels to plasticy for me I feel more comfortable with the SA, Maybe it's just what I'm used to!!! Retep.

So next question if I decide to get a swiss, where can I get one without the Shooting Edge on it? No offence to Cori or Redleg or anyone else but if I wanted writing on my rifle I'd get something else.

The other thing about the SL-8 is it can take ar mags with an adapter correct. Any experiance with this adapter? Do the mags fall free?

No offense intended to Sl-8 owners.

But in my opinion, the SL-8 is a retarded designer's civilian version of a G36. I have seen the conversions, and they invariably leave me feeling a bit on the ill side. No, I am not a snob. I have owned a genuine UMP and compared with quality modifications of the USC, and it will honestly say that it is about 300% closer to the original than any SL-8 aberation I have yet seen.

On the other hand, if you buy a SAN Classic variant you will and wind up a rifle that is not a high percentage of retarded modifications intended to f**k you as the end user.

No money to convert it over to something that is not slightly embarrassing. Simply take it out of the box and enjoy shooting it.

Same. I just don't understand why anyone would get an SL8 over a Swiss Arms with the negligible difference in price (before you jump on me, notice that the SL8 does not come with ANY sights, necessitating the purchase of a scope + mount, $300-400 min.).

No offence taken....

All of our guns in stock are SANS Logo!

IIRC it came to market during the US AWB and HK (in typical fashion) never changed the design post-ban, which is why the design is so bizarre.
