I picked up my new pistol, Glock 21sf, from Ellwood Epps today. Here are some pics of it beside my Sig 226 9mm and their respective .22 conversion kits. I got the 21sf without the ambi mag release, at first because that was what works with the conversion kit I got a good deal on, but after doing some research it also appears I made a good choice as the ambi release has some issues. Anyhow, here are the pics:

My initial impressions are:

Feels great in my hand, fits nicely.

Feels a bit like a toy, not siggy at all!

I will definately need an extended slide release...not sure who this release is designed for!

I will probably upgrade the sites.

It feels cheaper then my sig...although it WAS cheaper so that makes some sense.

The trigger breaks nicely.

I will have to get it out to the range for a real comparison.
 
Slide release isn't designed to be used as such per the manual, but I have no problem reaching the stock one. If you are going to use the slide release, I think most vids recommend using your support hand anyways, so reaching it shouldn't be a problem. The thing I could never get used to is the mag release, definitely needed the extended one.

Its weird to hear what you have to say about the trigger, I am still getting used to mine, some 2000 rounds later. I upgraded to the 3.5# disconnector and NY1 trigger spring, that seemed to help with the take up at least.

I went with the factory night sights on my G17 and love em, I haven't heard anything bad about the trij's either if you are actually going to upgrade them.

The difference in feel I would expect that to be typically when handling a 'plastic' gun vs all metal, but thats just IMO

Got to the club to try it out tonight....to be greeted by a sign that said "no shooting this week due to work being done on the range"....just mean!
 
The G21 is one of the best .45auto's ever.

I had one with the ambi-release and had no issues. I think most people have a "issues" with it because it is quite stiff, as most Glock mag releases are. These people need to "Cowboy up" and quite #####in'.
 
Onagoth, I just learned how you are supposed to release the slide...guess I won't need an extended slide stop lever after all! Thanks for getting me to learn the difference between a slide release and a slide stop.

Glad to know I made a good purchase target! The complaints I heard about the ambi were on glocktalk. I won't link to the threads but if you search the word "ambi" you will find them. The complaints were not unanimous, but frequent enough to make me glad that I bought the standard one. I am glad to hear it sounds like you got a great one!
 
Finally got to the range and I take back any negative thing I thought about this amazing gun! It is such a soft shooter! The trigger really DOES feel great to me and it is bang on accurate with only one minor ftf brand new out of the box. All I can say is wow. The advantage arms .22 conversion kit worked perfectly with it too, but it is definately more fun firing .45s!
 
It was actually the first time I put more then 1 round in the magazine and it happened on the second one. After that there were no problems. The failure to feed was minor, it just blocked a little bit so it did not go to full battery.
 
The 21sf is still bigger, but not by too much. It is equally comfortable, that is for sure! I have the hogue extreme aluminium grips on my 226 so that makes it slightly slimmer too. I think even with factory grips it would still be smaller than the glock. Having said that, I know some people don't like the finger grooves on the new glocks, but it really fits my hand perfectly. So the 226 is slimmer, but I give them equal grades for comfort.
 
slam that loaded mag home like you mean business, and you will not need to bother with the slide release...
as for the ambi mag release, it works great for a lefty like me, and was a major reason for me to buy this pistol. if the mag is full or mostly full you will have to push it very hard, due to the added tension. also it seems to only drop halfway unless you hold the mag release down for half a second or so.
my pistol has no problems dropping an empty mag though, and i cant think of a situation where id be in a rush to drop out a loaded one. (maybe a jam or other malfunction?)
