If you don't own a safe.
Remove the bolt and store separately. No lock required.
I used to lock my bolts in a tool box and just left the rifles in the closet.

Option 2, Buy the Stack-on 8 gun build it yourself cabinet.

My friend is taking his pal course now and the intrsucor @
silvercore told him is illegal to store ur rife with the bolt in it opend or closed
even with a cable lock on the rifle !
Said bolt had to be completely out !

I think Fact Sheets from the CFC is your friend's friend:
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/fs-fd/storage-entreposage-eng.htm

He's wrong three ways:

If you trigger/cable lock it - bolt can stay.
If you remove bolt - no need for trigger / cable lock.
If in vault - no need for trigger / cable lock or bolt removal.

Of course these are the legal requirements. If he's a pants and suspenders kind of guy he can disassemble / lock up as many parts as he wants to.

If I'm home, I like to store one next to the front door. Leaned up, loaded, with open bolt. If I'm not home, I'll put it back in the vault. Coyotes, cougars, etc. seldom wait for me to remove trigger locks or dig out bolts. Regards, Bill.

Silvercore was pretty specific when I took their course and actually showed the legal text / description while doing it on the projection screen. They were talking about storing the bolt action in plain view what to do...

They didn't say that to me anyways.

Bolts in, uncocked, locked in safe. Anything else is being anal IMO. Might as well take the slides off pistols, and cylinders out of revovlers while you're at it. Uncessary and if anything indicates a fear of firearms that the anti's have been brainwashing society with. Use common sense, make sure they're unloaded and keep them locked up and away from the kids.

I the gun safe with out any other locks on them. I did that trigger lock once but when I went out duck hunting and forgot to take off the lock. Had no keys with me. Never again.

That's why I bought trigger locks with combination locks instead of keys. :)
