Stainless Steel maintenance?

Just picked up a new Ruger that is stainless. It's my first stainless rifle, so I thought I'd ask for some tips on maintenance (not bore cleaning, but protection etc...). I assume it's a little different than my other rifle bbl's.

Anybody have any info?

I don't do anything for my stainless other than store it in a non-humid location.

Personally, I treat my stainless the same as my blue guns. They just don't need as much periodic care the blues need in humid conditions.

Think of it as a blued gun, just more shiney.

SS resists corrosion better, but it still needs to be cleaned, lubed, and stored properly.

Ok thanks for the advice guys. The owner's manual said something about putting metal wax on the exposed SS, might be nice as an extra waterproofing as it were. Anyone tried that?

I would suggest using birchwood caseys Barricade (the new name for sheith). Stainless steel will rust, it just takes longer.

I learned the hard way that s. steel guns can rust just the same. I bought a s. steel revolver from Weimajack and inherited an unadvertised bonus; rust in at least 4-5 spots on the barrel and cylinder. From what I can tell, he'd either had it sitting in its foam case in a very humid location for months before shipping it to me, or the gun rusted in that same case during the 12 hr trip from his place to mine. Yeah, I know.....

So to those who believe that they're safe against rust with stainless, Uncle Pete's got news for you. You ain't.
