Muzzle Brake for AR

All this talk makes me wanna get one . I just put in a piston conversion in my LMT MRP and it feels like there s more recoil ? or i was just firing too fast to test reliability . I like the look of the of the PWS , how does it fair compared to Triple tap , YHM ? Doubt i ll buy a 700$ brake so compared to other brakes on the market wich is the best value ?

Most of what we do to our range toys could be called silly, stupid, or unnecessary.

Does the average guy who will never even see a NV device need an aimpoint/eotech with NV capabilities? Of course not, but he'll spend the extra money anyway, because he wants it.
Does the average guy need a ShortDot that with a good mount will more than exceed the cost of most high-end AR's when all he does is punch paper on the range, where a $300 Leupold vxii 1-4 will effective give the same results? Of course not, but again, he'll spend the money anyway, because he wants to.

Same with a muzzle brake. So what if the brake costs almost as much as the gun. You'll get measurable performance gains(faster and more accurate follow-up shots) that will mean more than the other guy with his NV-capable RDS, or the guy with his ShortDot.

And if you decide to upgrade the gun, all your accessories can move to the new range toy.

the YHM-28-5M1 or the YHM-28-5C2

YHM-28-5M1

Yankee Hill Phantom Comp/Brake.
Designed with Phantom styling in mind but works as a muzzle brake and compensator.

YHM-28-5C2

Yankee Hill Phantom Comp/Flash Suppressor.
This 5 port design has no downward facing port which helps eliminate dust problems when shooting in the prone position.

I've never used the YHM, but if muzzle climb is what you want to eliminate, the PWS definitely works. I had one for a while and it was pretty amazing how little my Aimpoint dot moved with quick pairs. That being said, for whatever reason, it opened my groups up to unacceptable (for me) sizes. The gun went from shooting .6 MOA to 1.5 MOA. Not sure what was going on there, but all is well again once I went back to my A2 hider.

Depending upon how the Brake/Flash Hider is manufactured will depend upon the effects on accuracy. A true conentric hole EDM'd will give you the best accuracy, however it is also dependant upon how true the muzzle was threaded and center of the bore to the threading.

I think you will find that the vast majority of AR muzzle threads are not very concentric to the bore. I have a chunk of AR barrel where the threads are at an angle to the bore and not concentric to the bore at the same time. It is a total dog's breakfast.

The problem with the Vais brake is it blows high pressure gas at the ground which is less than pleasant and decidedly non-tactical when shooting prone or close to the ground. Not only will it produce a large dust cloud to give away the shooter's position but it will compromise the shooter's ability to actually see anything downrange.

Have you shot a Vais Brake? You are correct when you say that gas is direct towards the ground, however gas is also vented outwards away from the shooter. I personally shoot this brake on a 22-250 and a 204 Ruger and I have zero issues with dust clouds.

Stay tune to my website for a series of videos on the Vais brake. We will be comparing the brake to a few different styles available on the market today. I will be doing decibel meter, muzzle lift and gas discharge tests.

I stock AR Brakes, ready to screw on. No Smithing required.

Interesting. I like how it's flush with the barrel. Compared to most people's concerns, I wouldn't figure dust as an issue (unless firing on full automatic or extreme rapid fire ).

Would there be any possibility of having a custom extended version of this muzzle brake made? Or possibility of combining compensator with muzzle brake (thus extending)? I'd like to add an extra 5.1cm to my carbine barrel (which is a 29.2cm Sabre Defence barrel). I was thinking of finding or getting a custom extended A2 flash suppressor, but am exploring other options at the moment.

Cheers!
