Hello all,

I am looking to get into big game hunting this fall - whitetail, and eventually I will be going for a bigger animal such as a moose.
Anyway I am going to be buying a Remington 700 30-06 to cover all my bases, and now all that remains is a scope.

Right now I am looking between the Vortex Viper 3-9 x40 and the Vortex Diamondback 3-9 x 40, as well as a Bushnell 4200 3-9 x 40.

Any advice between these 3 or anything similiar that would help me get the job done would really be appreciated.

Thanks

They're all pretty close, Bushnell has the better warranty I believe. I'd take either.

How much money do you want to spend? I would look at the Leupold "Canadian". They are built on the VX 2 line with the option of having a specific turret for the calibre in question. The turrets are $ 35.00 each and can be had in many different calibers and bullet weights. If you have a pet load you like, Leupold will make up a turret with your balistics on it!

I just got a Bushnell Elite 4200 and am really pleased with it. I'd also recommend Nikon Buckmaster if on a budget and still looking for good glass.

Since when did Bushnell get a "No Fault" lifetime warranty on all their scopes??
I know Vortex has this warranty but have never heard Bushnell have it..in fact I hear Bushnell warranty is one of the worst in the biz??

A side by side comparison of the 4200 and Vortex Viper and viper wins marginally. Vortex is really starting to do well in the optics business and really stands behind their product.

Cheers!!

this is the reason I was leaning towards the Vortex right on their website they go over their excellent warranty

noob help

When I've had to use warranties when I've made purchases via CGN have never been a problem. For instance I spoke to white falls prior to a purchase and he was very straight forward with information regarding the guarrantee on the scopes that he sells. Afterwards, I felt comfortable enough to make my purchase and I've been very pleased with this scope.

I'd search the EE and buy a Leupold 2x7 or 3x9.

Do they repair in Canada as does Bushnell and Leupold?

.

Yes, in Guelph, ON. And if they can't fix it, they'll just send you a new one. If you drive over it with your truck, just send it in, and they will replace it.

Bushnell won't do that for you, and it'll take them 6 months to tell you that...

That's good. They'll need that to get my business. I already have a set of Vortex binocs and like them alot.

I've not had any problems with higher end Bushnells as of yet, but a 6 month wait wouldn't be good.

Scope question

They're all pretty close, Bushnell has the better warranty I believe. I'd take either.

Bushnells warranty is not even CLOSE to what Vortex offers on the Viper and Diamondback...both are lifetime warranty, any reason, no questions asked. As far as the scopes are concerned, I feel the the Viper has better optics then the 4200, and is lighter but believe it or not for foul weather hunters I really don't think you can beat the Rainguard...it flat out works, never had a problem with it, and you don't really need scope caps for most applications. Myself I would buy the Viper and put caps on, but some people hate them, and if you are one of those people and want to hunt in crappy weather, buy the Bushnell. Diamondback is good, but not in the same class as the Viper...I do say this of the Viper though, it's the quality you would expect from a scope you paid 200 or 300 more for. Grouse River has great prices and good selection, plus it's not a gigantic multinational conglomerate, which may make you feel better about spending a pile of money ;)

I have just what you need. If you are interested in buying a model 700, I've got Model 700 CDL Ltd. 30-06 commerative in excellent condition topped off with a Leopold 3.5 x 10 x 50 mm VXL scope with a boone and crocket big game reticle. You can't go wrong at $1,500....this entire package bought brand new 3 years ago cost me approx. $2,000. If you are interested let me know! Minuteman
