Spray Painting the stock and CLP lube on Norcinco m14

I was just wondering if there is anything wrong with spray painting the stock of the black fiberglass stock that came with my Norinco m14? is there anything that i should tape up as to not damage the weapon.

And anyone want to comment on CLP, (the stuff the army uses on their weapons for cleaning) as in is it any good or should i be looking at something else for my weapons

CLP is very good overall; I use it on my M14. Just watch firearms with wooden stocks to be sure you don't get too much on the wood (none is best) as it is not good for wood. Very good on parkerized metal like your M14.

Your stock, well, take it off the rifle, give it a very light sanding, clean it with thoroughly and basically go for it.

M14 ' s are designed to be lubed with grease , clp can be used for cleaning {except the bore,there are far better bore cleaners out there} .
 
when i painted the wooden stock on my m305 i taped up the mag well and all the metal parts attached to the stock, and i also avoided getting alot of paint built up where the barrel sits in the stock.

clp is good stuff for cleaning, brings out carbon you didnt know was there. i dont use it as a lubricant however.

Though I don't own any weapons myself... I use CLP to clean after firing but lube with white lithium grease and it works fabulously. I don't know what CLP will do with that synthetic stock.
 
Hoppe's is a much better powder solvent than CLP. Use grease to lube the rifle and Hoppe's to clean it- if you need to you can use Hoppe's Benchrest which also breaks down copper for cleaning the barrel more thoroughly. CLP is designed as an all purpose "one thing to do everything" but doesn't do any of them as well as separate cleaners and lubricants which are designed to do only one job.

You aren't going to want to leave oil or solvents on synthetics in large quantities, but unless the stock is junk then small amounts here and there aren't a big deal. As far as paint goes I am not an expert but you might as well spend a little more and be sure that it's going to last.
