I have a buddy of mine looking at getting a Taurus 1911, the 1911B-1 model. He is unsure of it and I didn't know any on it to tell him. Anyone had any first hand exp. with this pistol? If so please inform me, thanks.

For the price, it's a pretty good gun. You could look at any of their adverts and see that you are getting a lot, for a little. In hand, in feels great! That's just my 2-cents though. Some people really don't like the feel of it. My major caution comes if you want to customize: NOT every 1911 after market part will fit on the PT1911. Just the way it has been built.

I've heard good things about it from friends down south, but equally bad things about customer service in Canada.

Edit: 1337 post.

I had a stanless one for almost a year and a half now :) (see my signature pic).

I like it! Looks good, comes with Novak sights, nice trigger, has a forged (not cast like STI Spartan) frame, slide and barrel. I didn't like the grips so I replaced them other than that no complaints...

And you CAN use after market parts like with other 1911's...some might require fitting of course!

Freedom Ventures is a new Taurus distributor in Canada. Freedom Ventures has an excellent reputation for after-the-sale support. I would not hesitate to buy Taurus for fear of product support.

Say, that reminds me...

Does anybody know of any Springfield Armory warranty station in Canada?

I have looked at reviews and about 80% of them are good and the othe 20% are bad....but REAL bad, some guys saying they would rather throw stones.

The thing Taurus has been missing is solid representation (they were with RNicholls - 'nuff said) now that Freedom Ventures is in the picture, I wouldn't hesitate to look at any Taurus. As Wendell says Springfield has no warranty support in Canada and requires cross border shipping, long waits and a 'you'll have to wait' attitude. The only Springer I'd consider is the Professional, and I'd treat that as if it didn't have a warranty.

It's a 1911.... as long as the frame & slide are good there is a myriad of aftermarket parts to keep it running should the need arise. I think it was very astute of Taurus to get on the 1911 bandwagon.... ;)

I'd buy one if the price was right....

NAA.

I actually handled one yesterday while at the fishing shop, pretty nice - good build quality, solid feel, very positive controls and excellent trigger. Now I'm not sure what's going on with the hammer (some sort of pin in there) and I don't know if it'll go in a normal holster (frame seems to have been 'modified at the rail), but all in all it handled like a competently built 1911. The price? I'm going to assume that there are better prices out there on the same gun.

I have a Taurus 1911, also a Dan Wesson, a couple of Colts, a Para, a STI, etc..
Buy it with confidence since Freedom is in the picture. I'd buy another if they would offer more calibers.

Back in the sixties I owned a couple of Taurus revolvers and really liked them but back then they were fairly cheap guns and since getting back into shooting again I was surprised to see how much the company has grown. This should be a good recomendation for them. That being said I have never owned a Taurus 1911 but I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

The thing in the Taurus' hammer is yet another extraneous "safety".

For the money, I'd buy STI.

Yeah, if the price I was looking at is a 'regular' price, I'd get an STI myself. Why do people think that the 1911 "NEEDS" another safety device, a pre- Series 70 has 3 seperate safeties (not counting the only one that really makes a difference) - how many friggin safeties do people need!!! :bangHead:
