Hey lads...

Muti-pronged question here:
I have a Rem 870 Express Super Mag Synthetic w/ a 30" bbl... I also have a Grizzly mag w/ a 15" bbl...

Would it be:
a) safe to use the grizzly bbl on my remmy (provided I just use 2 3/4 shells)
b) legal to do?
c) would the two even match up properly?

I only ask because my 30" bbl is kind of a PITA to hump through the bush for grouse, and it'd be handier to just throw the 15" on...Plus I can just use the supplied plug in my 870, as opposed to getting one of my grizz mags pinned for hunting...
Thanks for the help.

a) Yes
b)Yes
c)Maybe.....i've noticed minor issues with indexing using Chinese barrels on Remington 870's
Pretty easy to check and see if yours mates well or not....

I always thought the Grizzly 870 receivers and barrels were a little different than the factory 870 receivers/barrels?

I think that Dlask makes 870 barrels, though I forget if it was them or not.

The Norinco barrels from guns with 4 shot tube mags should fit on the 870 but in my experience they end up a bit twisted to one side....I posted some pictures showing mine a while back.

Since the original poster has the 15" barrel and a Remington 870 already he should just try it and post the results....

Okay...

Tried it out, and took some pics.

Started out by comparing the two bbls beside each other...

Remington bbl on left, grizz on right.

Everything seems to be the same. So I threw the 30" rem bbl on the grizz, and everything seemed to work fine (minus actually firing live ammo in it.)

I then put the 15" grizz bbl on my rem receiver. It's a bit tight to lock up when I slide the action forward, and then back again, but other then that I think it'll be fine. It's definitely not as smooth as the rem bbl.

Has anyone ever done this before? I just don't want to blow my face off when I try firing it....

Only problem I can think of though is that my 15" bbl has the front post for the rifle sights on it. Although I figure as long as I just put the target within the circle, it'll hit. Will have to try it w/ some clays before I go for the grouse....

??

I was shooting clays with my 12.5 inch griz and a 28"rem express barrel, as well i have shot many rounds from my rem with a grizz barrel

Isn't the Remington now considered restricted, because it has been modified with a barrel under 18.5 inches? I thought it could only be non-res under 18.5 if it came from the factory that way.

someone correct me if I am wrong

i have an express with the same 15 inch barrel. works fine.

no. it would be restricted if less than 26'' overall.

if it receives a factory made barrel, its ok as long as it stays at 26''OAL.

if the barrel gets cut below 18'', it becomes prohibited.

The barrel was manufactured as a 15" barrel and the gun is still more than 26" OAL. It is still therefore non-restricted.

He didn't cut the barrel to be 15" so I think that they are both still non-restricted. I have the exact same DA Grizzly plus an adjustable knoxx stock for pistol gripping. It should work fine, since the Grizzly is a 870 clone. Good luck with it. :)
